I found some fruit fly traps at bunnings... they were really helpful. I think it was just vinegar mixed with a poison.
Avoid fruit going off in the fruit bowl/on the bench. You might even want to cover your fruit bowl with a tea towel. Leave compost bins outside as they love breeding in these.
