i dont believe the people in brisbane should continue to request funding from the local community as they were pre warned aproxametely 5 years ago and the politicians can lie about this as much as they like but when the cost comes down to it let some of the money we the tax payers are sending over seas come back home to pay for the damage
after all we are just as poor a country as the reast and the politicians decided in price rise not the local community
so lets see them get our money back home
and start producing a few products here in australia not send it home to the politicians home land

I fully agree,I'm tired of hearing where they send OUR money and to which damn country,get rid of all these dumb idiot governments and I mean all of them, none are worth a toss,and start helping our own,we have our own disasters,setbacks,low income earners,homeless people young and OLD,starving people,Fix our own country first and stop bringing in more unaustralians and use the money here in australia for Us and Us only,heaps of us are loosing our jobs to overseas,then the new keep coming over and now you see them serving behind counters,driving courier trucks and other jobs,GIVE US BACK OUR COUNTRY AND KEEP OUR MONEY HERE FOR OUR PROBLEMS.

I agree that not only Brisbane but the Surrounding areas need help to get back on their feet. The reason they are still asking for money is because as usual, the Government can give to overseas but never seem to have enough to help out their own Country. A lot of people aren't getting help from Insurance Companies and are not able to get started with rebuilding their homes and lives. For too many years Politicians have taken money from us and given it away to other Countries.

Mate, I somewhat agree.
See the thing is Ruddy was ousted because he wanted to tax the mining companies. But coorporate B.S. is coorporate B.S. and of course being taxed when all the profit goes not just to the workers but overseas, well the big coorporate suits couldn't have that.
Then there is the matter of interest rate rises, again nothing to do with the government that is also coorporate B.S and the government can only ensure that banks are "fair" to the aussie people.
Coorporations are what is in control of australia not governments.
Secondly one thing that needs to be said. After the victorian bushfires the $100 million that the government are sitting on are sitting on it for a reason. There are 1600 families that are still homeless after the fires. It costs $400 thousand dollars to rebuild a home, leaving you to build 2.2 houses per million. That means that only 25 homes rebuilt (the ones with no insurance coverage) how do you decide what 25 families deserve their home rebuilt but the other 1575 families don't? It can't be done.
As for the floods and cyclones in Queensland well, quite frankly I agree with the flood levy tax. Although I would prefer it called the disaster tax. Only so that the people in Victoria and the people in Queensland can benefit.
See the problem is when a disaster like these hit ALL of Australia suffers for it. Our surplus in agricultural goods are no longer there so our good stuff gets exported and us aussie battlers are left with over priced, poor quality food. THAT needs to change.
I find it hilarious that it is only the higher income earners oppose this tax. You see if you earn over $50 000 a year you only pay half a percent in tax toward the flood levy. Which is $250. Those earning over $100 000 pay a percent which is $1000. For those people it's barely a weeks rent and they get to pay it out bit by bit. Bit unAustralian to oppose it I reckon.
You know you could always start a petition about bringing the aussie dollar back home. Unfortunately right now most Aussies are relying on the kindness of those who can least afford it which is very sad indeed.
All we can really do is remember to buy Australian and by local and not exported. This also includes food. It costs a little more but it keeps Australian money in Australia which is very important indeed.
I also urge those reading that if you can give, give. Donate blood, go through your clothes and donate what you don't need. Donate your blankets if you can spare them it doesn't just have to be money. That's what aussie mateship is about helping each other out.

I agree with what you all have said,it's so disheartening as time and people go that the aussie way as it was is fading, in days gone by the aussie always helped fellow aussies,she'll be right mate,no longer lives. Times,governments,new people,australia has changed,we can all say what we like about it all. Money,disasters,jobs,everything,nothing seems to get better,we are battling harder now than say 30 years ago,and things were tuff then too,seems to me now, when ever money and people come together it just seems to wear us down.Big buisnessess,governments will always do whats good for them money wise,so I will never win,my job will be going over seas soon,it's a matter of WHEN.I've been thro' disasters in my life time nature wise and job wise so this year with all thats happened has just made me feel even more down hearted. All those big toffs either in government or big buisnesses won't have to worry about not getting a steak on their plate this month.I wish good luck to all dinkie die aussie's who have experienced it bad this year.

I agree that all the Victims of Floods and Cyclones need help. Many have lost everything and their Insurance won't pay up but instead of wasting money or sending it overseas, the government should have already been putting all the money they have been getting off us into a fund to cope with Disasters. As for the overseas countries we constantly help, maybe they could pay a Disaster Levy on our behalf.

I agree with the need to bring manufacturing and other industries back to Australia. If we need the money to rebuild after the floods and cyclone, we should keep our donations to overseas countries smaller. After all, profits from all the mining goes off shore.

with manufacturing of goods australia needs to say govern the tax aproprately before we are all incoming goods for resale

I believe they should get some help. Have you ever been through floods, fire or cyclones. If you have you know how heart wrenching it is. And every bit kindness from a stranger or friend helps and a little bit of funding to help the people who need it can go along way. The funding is only a band-aide. It doesn't fix every thing.
And for the money we pay in taxes who knows! Look at the bungle with BER program for schools. All the new roads. Well that is all I have to say.

yes i have been through floods and bush fires i just packed and left
i can replace the house hold items but there is only one of me
with bush fires i have experience fighting them but no money no way
with the tax the money is in defecit as the government is only half doing its job
with good neighbours and friends yep they all help to clean up the mess or burry the dead what else can you do
but why should they keep on asking the public to pay up when long term impact studies were done nearly 6 years previous and the government did little or nothing
i dont agree we need to keep on paying out for personal loss that could have been avoided

Interesting that we are, yet once again, asked to contribute to an unfortunate natural disaster. The Victorian bushfire communities have hardly seem one red cent of all the money Australians so generously donated. Now, the Queensland and Victorian floods victims are asking for our help. I don't mind helping when it's genuinely needed, but what are the insurance companies doing in honouring the policies taken out by those thousands affected? Exactly nothing! How will all the monies donated help those so badly affected by the floods? How will we ever know what amount of all the monies donated is actually distributed and to whom? The Victorian bushfire victimes are still waiting for some form of assistance from the monies donated to that cause. Nearly 2 years later!!. Something is not right, and we Australians should be informed what has happened to all the monies donated.

I agree! Where has that money all gone. There are people still living in temporary homes out there waiting for council approval for rebuilding, waiting on insurance companies to come to the party. What has happened to the millions of dollars that the Australian and Overseas communities donated.??? Please explain. WE NEED TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD - THE FIRE VICTIMS ARE IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP AND UNDERSTANDING.

are you aware of the data babse the government has to keep in regards to donated moneys and where it has been dispursed to ie towns and people that recieved the funding

what we could ask for is a data base that includes our name address phone number and the amount donated and where the collecting company has placed it till it gets donated outwards and the full amount of cash
but then the government would tax it
but when do we get back what the government sends out of the country

We pay huge amounts a taxes and when its need funny how its nowhere to be found. Where does the government get off deciding that we will be TAXED and therefore forced to pay for the repairs. Such a slp in the face for those of us that have DONATED money

there is a lobby against added tax but still have not found the internet pages
with brisbane they companies were supposed to be insured and who would buy a home and not insure it
aspecially as the water was caused by flooding not by as the press tried to write it up as flash flood this is to try and stop the insurance companies some huge loss this year
