What a way for the Liberal party to do what is what the majority of the country wants without upsetting the out of date hard liner traditional party members and go against their founding principles by been seeing to keep the old fashioned Liberals happy by not passing the same sex marriage law .. keeping them happy... and by asking the people what they all ready know with a 120 million dollar postal survey... which at the end of the day can be rejected by the politicians. . Funny how Christopher Pine was recorded at the national party meeting stating the the marriage law was going to be past sooner than later. . Next thing you know POSTAL VOTE.. Same dex marriage is only the right to have the same LEGAL rights as every other married couple in relation to finances properties rights to medical desisions if one cant make them for themselves. .. It has nothing to do with religion at all but this seems to be the main issue.....I was brought up with religion but have left it behind me and doesnt pay any part of my life or control my rights .. so why should something that many people dont believe control what they can do... same sex relationships are everywhere and are as good as traditional couples so why not give them the same legal rigjts as the rest of us

The definition of marriage has always been the union between a man and a woman. What rights does man have to change a union that was instigated by God who finds this action between two persons of the same sex abominable.
This is not just a case of same sex couples marrying, but this will be a costly problem for our governments, both state and federal, to keep abreast of the changing of laws in all respects of unions which could lead to costly law suits in the future.

SSM is only one aspect of this whole saga! Quite frankly, it is a waste of taxpayers money. Gay couples already get equal rights along with defacto couples so why fight for marriage laws to be changed for them?? If that isn't enough, it will also lead to significant change in sex education with our school children. If this trend follows other countries, it will eventually implement laws that will allow our chidren to decide their gender depending on how they feel that day! Absolutely crazy and dangerous! The "safe school" program will be implemented if the YES vote wins and you wonb't be able to do anything about it even if you disagree with this aspect. As we are already seeing in this whole debate, freedom of speech & in the future freedom of religion will be undermined! This whole SSM debacle will ultimately affect society but it is just too soon to tell how!!

who needs a piece of paper to say their married, just get a good lawyer to draw up any will, medical directive, or preneptuals. why spend 120 million when this money could go to lots of essential and deserving services. i really don't care if you are gay, straight, or corkscrewed, just don't use hard earned money for bloody stupid polls. we are asked to suck it up on some many issues that cost money, there isn't an endless supply.

I have a daughter who is "Straight" and a daughter who is "Gay". I love them both very much and don't care what they are as long as they are happy. I have just one concern about "Gays", I don't believe they should be able to adopt children as it is not a "Normal" upbringing.

if marriage is such an outdated and useless event, why are these same sex activists so intent on keeping it active? why not coin another word/term to describe a "modern" issue. the real reason behind this push is to redefine the meaning of marriage and all it entails. same sex couples already have "recognition , acceptance and the rights of married/de-facto couples: if they need a ceremony and certificate to prove they are together, use another wprd/term, and leave the word "marriage" as it is.; a union between male and female.

It, as I understand it, makes sure that a MAN is Sworn to be with this WOMAN for LIFE through Sickness and Health, Poverty or Wealth, and to LEGITIMISE their Kids. BASTARDS are ILLEGITIMATE Children, as we all know. It was supposed to be shameful to have kids out of Marriage. But, nowadays. . . apparently, WHO CARES? Well, I DO!! That is because these days, people have seemed to have reverted BACK to being just ANIMALS when it comes to having kids. My nephews are a perfect example, and some of you may also relate to this.
My Nephew [I said Nephews, because I don't know which one. They're TWINS!] had a girlfriend and had a baby girl with her. They broke up when she was just about School age, and he now has another girlfriend and yet another baby girl. We are so close [NOT!] that she doesn't even KNOW who I am. His EX-girlfriend has since found someone else and she has also had another kid with HIM. WHAT the smeg is going on?? There's NO REAL FAMILY at all!! WHO'S with WHO, Who is Family and Who ISN"T? What a bloody MESS! NONE of them have anything to do with me anyway, because they're just SO anti-social, which is fine by me. AS far as I am concerned I have NO Family!!

First up, I voted YES even though it goes against my traditional upbringing. Just because I voted YES does not mean no one else has any entitlement to express their view by voting Yes or No. If the clowns in Canberra on the other side had not played politics and let the plebisite go ahead in last March as per stated in the election campaign and originally proposed by them years earlier, we would now be seeing the debate and legislation in parliament already and possibly passed. The whole purpose of the plebiscite (and now the watered down postal vote) is to give everyone the chance to have their say (ie vote) and not just the noisy ones at the two ends of the debate. Commonsense would have had the plebiscite done at the same time as the last election as voting for any particular party for general economic etc issues has no relevance to changing the fabric of society for generations to come which is a lot longer than 3 years. I believe the Yes vote will get up in which case the No group cannot say they did not have the opportunity to have their voice heard. Anything different could lead to animosity going forward.
