On the subject of Facebook...how social is social media? Does it make you feel connected with people, or just a viewer/bystander? How do you prefer to connect to people - is face to face still best, or are friendships and connections just as rewarding through a computer screen? Is there anything you get out of social media that you can't get face to face?

Thought I would get this running here as I don't use Facebook/Twitter/et al.

Personally, I think it should be referred to as 'Unsociable Media' (anti-social sounds better, but is wrong).

Face to face is certainly better, unless dealing over large distances, where things like Skype are better.

I have pointed out to companies that I deal with that providing extra benefits/bonuses for FB users only could alienate customers that don't use these sites.

If you haven't seen the GiftPax option before, there offerings are very limited, with Nando's being the best value. The Coles one should be good, but it is on a select over-priced range.

Cash is still king.

I think, as with all new technology, that it has its place in the world.
Like the telephone, we cannot now do without Social Media.
However that's not to say that Facebook is akin to the telephone. These 'social media' environments are just another tool in the warchest. All it would take is one bit of bad news to topple it. But it is the current popular trend, which companies are now leveraging.

As for Social Media creating a generation of unsociable people, I think that is partly correct. Not only social media, but single person activities are rife.
Compare this to the telephone. Now you could talk to people a distance away and not have to see them or instantly deal with the repercussions of what transpired.

Anyway, I don't know what I'm getting at, so I'm going to stop writing now...
