Travel is not safe?
Crossing the road is not safe. Getting out of bed is not safe.

If you go to a '3rd world' country & flash your jewelery & cash around, of course it's not safe. Mind you, you can get mugged in New York, London or Sydney for the same thing.

If you try to stay away form the 'bad' areas, you'll be reasonably safe,
Remember your travel insurance - if you can't afford that, you can't afford to go.
