Do you wish Christmas would come and go quickly or do you look forward to it with great enthusiasm? Do you believe Christmas has lost its meaning given all the materialistic connotations associated with it or does it still have a special place in your heart?

Most people think of Christmas as a time of gift giving, and to connect with family, which must always be a good thing. However, the idea of Christmas was of pagan origin, 25th December being just after the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. The Lord Jesus Christ was probably born about September, as the shepherds would not have been in the fields at night in December, and his ministry was 3 1/2 years which ended about Easter time or the Jewish passover, and appears to have started around his 30th birthday. We are not commanded to celebrate Jesus' birth, only his death and resurrection in the breaking of bread. The main thing is that whatever we do at Christmas or any other time of the year should give glory to God in the highest.
