    Discussion: Ban bligh's brothel

Toowoomba Council and residents have protested against Bligh's government over-ruling the will of the people and forcing us to accept a brothel in our family oriented community! We are outraged at this STATE interference into a local communities affairs.

kezza says: OMG- As it is, they are likely to turn up in your street or neighbourhood anyway. And you wouldnt know unless they police raid them. At least with them being legal, there are more health controls, and its a whole lot safer for the workers, who will not be forced into cladestine meetings which endangers safety. Its the oldest profession in the world.. . . . and its not going away.

Sherri says: I am single and have no family but that does not mean I am unable to appreciate the benefits of living in a community where what is good for the core group of people who form a safe and productive society that being the family unit: Mum, Dad and the kids, committed to one another's well-being. Not Fred n Bruce or Gill and Penny! Or Tom and many other women, If you cannot live without "family benefits" as you put it, Marry! That is the only truly safe place for the enjoyment of sex!

Robertofgoodna says: I think you are living in a dream world, Sherri. The root cause of domestic violence is either financial dissatisfaction or dissatisfaction with sexual life. Marriage is far from "safe". Murders, rapes and other forms of abuse are quite common in marriage. Why are there so many "bored housewives"?

Phoenixflame says: Unless their location is 'prettied up' so that it really stands out, then what's the big fuss?
And it's not like there's a public show on every Thursday.
Just ignore and it'll be like any other shop you don't go into.

I also agree with the comments about the legalities of it making it safer in that there's controls and regulations. I'm sure it's not as bad a place as people would make it out to be and like I said before, it's there for those who want it and if that's not you, then steer clear of it. Out of sight, out of mind

Robertofgoodna says: I think brothels are symptomatic of the crazy hypocritical world in which we live. Human females have far more capacity for sexual peaks (orgasms) than human males do. Yet males pay females for sexual activity. The reverse should be the case. Women should be paying men for sex.

Sherri says: The state of marriage is not at fault. What is, is the people who enter it and the mixed reasons they have for doing so. If it is entered into out of mutual respect and genuine love where couples (not the fakeness of same sex couples) committ faithfully, for life, to one another's well being, it is the best estate possible and provides safety for the off-spring produced from that union. Expecting your spouse to fulfill you completely is to put an unreal expectation on the purpose of marriage. Only our Creator and being in right relationship with Him can totally satisfy the deepest needs of the human spirit. If we live ontologically we are never bored!

mermaid says: There are endless professions many people work in during their journey in life. Sometimes choice is not an option, sometimes one falls into a dream role, others without choice. This particular profession has and will continue to be welcomed by the very people who seek services of this nature.

Whatever views come to light on this matter will not change society. Be it Toowoomba Council or any other am confident the decision making process included much thought to enable continuous harmony within the community.
