I am concerned at the amount of cruelty that seems to be directed towards cats,l am aware that not all people like cats ,but that is no reason to go out of their way to hurt them.l have 3 cats and l am always afraid for them when they go out,in case they get hurt .l know l should may be keep them inside but they weren't brought up inside cats .so l think its cruel to make them stay inside 24 - 7 .l don't think the law is strong enough when cruelty is done to animals ,you hear of some terrible things that people do to animals ,and all they seem to get is maybe a fine and a slap on the wrist. .l say not good enough. What do you think.how can this be changed ,how can we protect our 4 legged friends they can't talk so we have to do it for them

It is a real concern. My cats have an outdoor enclosure so I know they are safe.

Responsible pet owners should desex and vaccinate their dogs and cats - if people cannot afford to do this, then they should not own a pet. My 2 cats are kept inside at night to protect wildlife but some cats are not hunters so it's up to the owner to use common sense. I agree 100% that the law isn't tough enough for animal cruelty offenders - if convicted, there ought to be a life time ban for that person to prohibit ever owning any animal ever again. I've met people who have said how much they hate cats yet have never owned one so have no idea just how special they are.

I have 2 cats and an animal lover, I learnt at a young age about cruelty to animals as I went to work with my mum at the RSPCA at Yagoona. I recall a greyhound that was found at a beach buried in the sand with just its four legs sticking out of the sand, the owner a grey hound trainer believed the dog was dead once he cut off its ears and he thought it would bleed to death if buried up side down and would suffocate in the sand, not the case, the dog was found and rushed into the RSPCA and numerous vets worked on him and he survived, his name was Houdini (that's what the vets called him) nobody would ever think he would survive such an ordeal but he did. He was the result of a trainer that had lost money and this was his way of destroying the dog, I was told that grey hounds have serial number tattooed in their ears so if the dog was found no trace of the owner could be, but he was found due to media hype and his trainers licenced removed , such a minimal sentences really, Houdini lived out is new life with a new family and lived with the scares of where his ears would have been, I bet he had a great life and died a natural way in the end as this was about 40 odd years ago, a stronger more appropriate punishment should have been in place and jail sentences dished out to people who are weak enough to punish innocent animals

Thank you for your reply and that story. I will never in my life understand how some people think .Or should l say don't think. And yes you are right they are weak people in mind body and spirit...

My sis and I have four wonderful kitties (3 boys and 1 girl) who are the world to us. We keep them inside 24/7 because they are safe inside (that's not to say two of our boys have escaped numerous times and giving me heart failure in the process) We live on the main road in our Sydney suburb and are so afraid of our kitties running onto the road and getting hit by a car.

Our cats are very smart, and they always know when a visit to the vet is imminent and they can hear the food cube being open from the bedrooms. We love our cats and we will never understand why cats are disliked by some

And the punishment should fit the crime no difference weather its animal or human we are one of the same as far as l'm concerned except some times l think the animals are just a little smarter.

Thank you for your reply, my god what a horrible thing that poor dog .My heart goes out to them all. I know there are a lot of good people out there that would never hurt an animal .And would go out of there way to help any animal that they could. But on the other hand there is such pain and suffering ,directed at our special friends
