What advert made you do something and why?

Really simple question this month - what was the last advert that made you do something (i.e buy it, enquire about it, remember it)? What was it, why did you do something and where did you see it?

Over al I think that some charities spend far too much on expensive ads, pay high wages to staff. I donate to small local ones and not so much as the big ones. I have been told that if one donates $1 and 80c goes to staff and the ads.

None ! Totally turn off during commercials. Apart from the very rare clever one, the worst is when they play the exact same ad, every break. I find this worst on catch up tv. But there are fewer ads on there.

Interestingly the last ad was for downloading the Cafestudy app and the reason I did so was greed. I have been a member of Cafestudy for many years and received an email from them so decided to take up their offer.

The last ad that made me do something was. McDonalds ad. It came up on my Facebook when I was really hungry and it sold me. However after that I intentionally blocked McDonald’s and KFC from my news feed because it was bad for both my bank account and health.

Many years ago, seeing a GetUp billboard which said "Bring David Hicks Home' inspired me to join that organisation, for I am of the firm opinion that nobody should be imprisoned indefinitely merely on suspicion that they MAY do something illegal unless they have already established a credible track record in that area. David Hicks had not. I have remained a member ever since and have actively
participated in many of GetUp's campaigns.

RSPCA Pet Insurance. After years of huge vet bills we have decided to take out pet insurance for our new puppy. Currently we are trying to work through them all to understand what is and isn't allowed as the ad makes it unclear what is covered, how much is returned and what exactly it costs.

The dreadful Kia advert with the carload of women driving while screaming, singing, gyrating, flicking the bird at an elderly pedestrian and with a child also in the car. It is so dangerous a message and shows irresponsible and dangerous behaviour. I complained to the advertising standards board and on Facebook to encourage others to complain also.

I must be an oddity, the last ad I noticed was something stupid from some car company, where if you got a certain score on their app you got something free, and had a smart ass, look down your nose bragging bogan carrying on about getting points, good time to mute and go make a cuppa

Every time I see the lies in the Bunnings ads, it makes my resolve even stronger to avoid even shopping there.
I have been twice: (a) in May 2007 to have a key cut at almost 9pm AND (b) to buy a lamp in July 2008.
I refuse to go back.
The ads remind me to NOT go as it's rewarding Bunnings' predatory style of retailing.

I glanced through the cookbook and it had some great recipes and I DID use the item - so I went ahead and bought 3 and got the cookbook - I have already cooked a fantastic risotto from it which will become a family favorite so all good - I know these are designed to make you bulk but but if you use the items nd they have a long use-by date, them why not - I would never buy anything that I wouldn't use however

Sitting at home watching catch up television like any other sunday afternoon. An advertisement came up about charity and helping children living in third world countries. This advert made me determined to help, I joined up with a local church and ended up traveling to Africa doing a mission trip titled "The great wall" I was the only person traveling from tasmania, once I arrived in bangkok I met with a group ofpeople Id never met from around Australia we finished our journey to africa together. During our trip we visited albino children of africa and heard there horrifying stories, we worked together building a large brick wall on flat land where they had planned to put a school inside for children in africa not onli wiyh albinism but with a passion to learn, so they could enjoy being safe and happy while being educated. We experienced different cultures of africa, and wonderful wilderness being lucky enough to see a large amount of lions, elephant's, tigers, cheaters, flamingos, hippos and many more. We stayed right in front of a local adoption Centre full of happy young children looking for families. Wouldn't it be wonderful if adoption was made easier, more affordable and efficient.

This experience changed my life. #AFRICA.

The SpecSavers ad in which an aerobics instructor walks into a retirement home by mistake, and starts putting on a really energetic display of exercises for the elderly people, some of whom are wheel chair users. The contrast is comical. I simply noted Spec Savers as a company worth keeping in mind.

Ikea gets me into their store pronto! I love their advertising adn their catalogues. Always find what I want. The last major item I purchased was a queen sized bed. Their advertising was detailed and when I saw it I went straight to the nearest store and purchased it. Idea is for me. My entire villa is furnished in Ikea!! People comment on the way I have furnished with Idea items.

2009 was the last time I was 'highly influenced' by a TV ad. It was the new Holden Cruze. I went online immediately, found my closest new car Holden dealer, and emailed them for further details. This qualified me for a $100.00 off any accessories discount. I took possession of my Pewter Grey CDX Cruze WITH a rear spoiler and i was chuffed. It was my FIRST EVER brand new car. If you are in Adelaide, keep an eye out for me. I have a personalised number plate KAOS :o)

Plug it in, turn it on, crack in an egg or two or let your imagination run eggy free with all weird and wonderful additives, and voilà - baked egg on a stick. The appliance looks like it is vomiting up baked egg. Disgusting yet I can’t look away….Yes, I went there. I looked at the website then the YouTube videos. I got my eggy fix. Am I proud? No. Do I still hanker to see what vile creations abound in this egg-filled universe? …yes. I’m addicted to egg porn!

I saw an ad for Aldi in the newspaper last Wednesday. They were advertising Leather boots for $59 for Saturday. I actually went on Saturday morning at 9.30am but there were only 2 pairs left, a brown and black pair, both size 6. I have been at Aldi before but I was surprised at how many other people were looking for the advertised bargains. I know now that I needed to get there when the store opened to have any chance of getting anything in my size. I was very disappointed as they looked ok but I'm pretty sure they did not have many pairs anyway.

The Dove advertisements are on to something, about more than selling soap or Dove beauty bars. The "beauty patch" ad makes you really think about societal issues like the self-perception of women and body image and encourages you to challenge those beliefs.

Predominantly I'm not the slightest bit interested in advertising. It's intrusive, annoying and irrelevant. I can't understand how people can watch them, especially the new digital channels that are only advertising. I do look at catalogues, only to see if what I normally buy is on sale.

Just because someone is getting paid to flog a product, doesn't mean it's any good, safe, or will improve my life in any way. I would much rather companies didn't advertise and passed on the savings to consumers. Rant over. Deb.

It was for the phillip's air frier but it was not the add but the product that caught my attention. I cannot remember any add that made me do anything. It is only ever the product that influences my attention. If the product is good then it does not take a great add to get my attention. The add I saw was online and all it did was show what the product could do and that led me to research the product in greater detail . I checked reviews by people to see if it lived up to the advertisement. It did. I had wanted a way to make chips with low oil use for a long time but had not been impressed until this product came out.

When the ads first started I wondered why the meerkats spoke with a Russian accent but over the years as the ads changed and the saga progressed the loyal viewer was rewarded with an explanation.

I still however have not used the comparison site.

When I want something I search for relevant info web pages/catalogues/comparison sites etc, general unsolicited ads have no effect on purchasing decisions whatsoever, hit the mute button on telly so I can talk/do something else undistracted during ad breaks. Some particular things interest me so I subscribe to their online catalogue eg SNG Jaguar car parts catalogue because I am restoring a car and BCF newsletter for specials on fishing gear and club sausage sizzle nights with extra discounts, look at member second hand stuff ads in Amateur Radio/Jaguar Club print magazines but pay no attention to commercial ads for new stuff in those magazines. Only ads that ever engaged me/remembered were the 'bugger' ads many years ago now for Hilux utes - because I owned one at that time and message was humorous, as I already had one there was no impact on buying one.

Any ad that is relatable. My parents have satellite t.v. and we watch a lot of Chinese channels. The ads are very different, and range from promoting luxury and perfection, to life story kind of long ads that want to make you cry - and then you realize it's for Pantene, or whatever. Incidentally, I hate these. It cheapens it. I prefer casual ads such as Brand Power.

Oh what a sad life you must lead. I watch wonderful documentaries on the history , discovery and other channels. I like to keep abreast with current affairs and listen to other people's opinions to...

I have the answer. All households in our extended family have television recorders and we record all our programs and watch them later. We mute and fast forward through the ads. This way we get to see all our favourite programs and not be bothered by ads. If we could not do this we would dispense with the television altogether.

Don't watch TV - nothing on to watch and I hate all the ads

Oh what a sad life you must lead. I watch wonderful documentaries on the history , discovery and other channels. I like to keep abreast with current affairs and listen to other people's opinions to broaden my mind and enrich my life. I also discover music and cultural programmes which allow me to enjoy a huge range of experiences I couldn't otherwise enjoy or afford to attend. I discover books to read, topics to investigate further and even some of the advertisements/commercials broaden my mind about new, different and better products or ways of doing things. Some of the ads also remind me of issues such as public awareness, government information I need to know etc. Living in a rural area I rely on my television to keep me informed, amused, entertained and aware.
