Let's have some fun with this - If you could go ANYWHERE in the world for a holiday, regardless of price, where would you go and why?
Pretend you've just won the lottery! Is it warm, cold, scenic or relaxing?

The ultimate holiday destination is Disneyland. I live across the road from someone who loves Christmas lights. He has his lights on display 12 months of the year for about 8 hours a night. He does not have music (thankfully) to accompany the lightshow. Looking at his lights makes me pine for the lights and wonders of Disneyland in California. One day, in the many years to come, I hope to go and walk around DIsneyland holding Mickey Mouses' hand.

I think I’d go to Greece. Warm weather, relaxed feeling, and azure waters. I’d travel to the islands amongst the white and blue and eat local food. Greece feels so far from all the issues of the world, simple, traditional and peaceful.

If I got chance to go for holiday .. I will go to trekking in Nepal. There are lots of trekking areas in Nepal where we can reach by only walking hills and forests. I want to know the natural beauty of high hills, the life style of people, their hospitality. I am sure I wil be very to nature and her beauty in those days.

Well, nobody can go anywhere anymore, maybe forever, as no amount of $$$ will re-open state borders, let alone international travel.

I don't have any inclination to travel abroad.

My ultimate holiday would be to hit the road again and travel this great for as long as possible seeing all the lovely country towns and villages. It's these lesser known/travelled to places that hold the best little secrets.

It would be very nice, very relaxing, I can just see us in one of those cabins over the water, where you can see the sea life under neath your feet. Laying back, drinking champagne and eating fresh seafood. Well, a guy can dream, can't he?

I would love to do Canada, ride the Rocky Mountaneer. Scenery is spectacular and you can see wildlife roaming free. Not too sure about the cold temperatures there, but you probably won't notice it that much as you tour around seeing such wonderful sites.

I would explore the whole of northern Australia (above the Tropic of Capricorn) in both the Wet and Dry seasons. I would travel by sea - Cairns to the Torres Strait, Darwin to Broome; by train - Kuranda Scenic Railway, the Ghan plus the small local trains; by road - ah lots of road trips; helicopter down Nitmiluk, fly over the Ord; cruise down rivers, travel by camel. I would immerse myself in Kakadu, the Daintree, Ningaloo, Cobbold Gorge, Carnarvon Gorge, Kalkarinji and all of the other National Parks and reserves. I would meet the locals, learn about all of the magical flora and fauna, continue my Aboriginal Education, visit music and cultural festivals, revel in the scenery And fully experience this amazing country.

Any of the Hawaiian islands! They are so beautiful - best in the Pacific - and there's so much to see and do. Night clubs, bars & resorts on Oahu (and much more to do, like Pearl Harbour and Bubba Gump restaurant!), beautiful beaches and clear blue sea on Maui, peace and quiet on Lanai and Kauai. There's a mix of idyllic tropical beaches, old and new buildings and modern hotels. Hawaiian music is everywhere and the fragrances of coconut and frangipani. The people are friendly, weather perfect all year round and there's definitely an aloha spirit about the place. I've been there many times and never tire of it. Absolutely beautiful.

I have 16 days away later in the year.
Few days in Hong Kong, week in Austria, night in Germany, few days in Singapore.

One thing which may be useful to others:
Using Finnair for the Hong Kong - Europe - Singapore sections, paying $150 extra each for the long flights gives the equivalent of a premium economy seat. To get this, book the seats as usual, then manage booking. If you don't see the option there, complete the booking & call Finnair. The staff are very helpful.

Europe especially such areas as France, Italy and Greece and UK.
This is becAuse much of world history was created here and many were transferred throughout the world through migration.
As a result to understand many aspects of life in many regions of the world, one just have to know who were the early european settlers and
where they originated from, then you would understand current way of life, way they think and food and cuisines and fashion.

We once went on a cruise in the Inside Passage in Alaska. It was on a small boat not one of the big lners.WWe were one of the first boat allowed in as we were so small we were not disturbing the ic floes. We caught several groups of students up on the sides studying the Puffins we thought. It was strange for us to see them thee the last time we had seen Puffins was in North Wakes in UK. Er used to cycle around North Wales when we were teenagers, sleeping in barns or Youth Hostels, depending in getting a bed or having the money for one.
Rge 2 cruises we did in the Inside passage were fantastic. The Salmon where fighting to go upstream to lay their eggs. The bears were prowling the sides of the rives & through the woods, We were given a talk about the best way to protect yourself if you met a bear. With one you had to stand as tall as you could with the other curl up & pretend dead. The problem was it was difficult to say which was which as the brown bear could be black & vice versa. We never met one out in the open but did see silly people trying to take a photo of a mother bear with twin cubs
The woods & the sides of the rivers stunk with dying salmon. They were everywhere. There certainly shortage for the bears. We went on a huge glaciers on these giant buses, When we were allowed out then tyres were as tall as us. We were warned to be careful where you walked if you fell down a hole they would like find you in the distance future at the bottom of the glacier,
It so certainly to do such a trip we went on the top deck to look out for all the animals in the woods as we went along. There rafts of sea otters carrying their babies on their fronts as they paddled along. They showed no hint iff fear from us. Then the crew would come out & cook biscuits brownies, for chocolate, never dr.unk so much hot chocolate in my life. Were so spoilt.. they kept watch fir us also calling out, there were binoculars any & everywhere. Just had ti reach out as you ran for the stairs.
I reckon it was about the best holiday I ever had. We had no special dressing it was relaxing all the way.

I would probably go back to Darwin - my most happiest time was when I was living there back in the mid 70's up until the early 80's. It was just a fantastic, easy going lifestyle where no one was in a hurry and if you wanted spare parts for your vehicle, it had to come from Adelaide. Those were the days!

Without a doubt, Japan! Beautiful rural scenery with lush meadows, fertile farmland, humble mountains. Kind, gentle people with rich culture and customs passed through their ancestral generations. Locations like the snowy Sapporo, famous for it's beer and skiing, or gorgeous Nagoya and it's deer park. Or switch onto the modern, part westernised, part traditional, fully crazy world cities, like the haywire Tokyo or the food capital Osaka. Maid cafes, beer factories, 24/7 alcohol serving kombinis, animes, izakayas, ramune, takoyaki and PLENTY of shopping! You name it, Japan has it. Everyone should have Japan on their holiday bucket list.

Apollo Bay ,Victoria. It is a very scenic and peaceful place surrounded by beautiful forests . Nobody harrasses you to buy their fake watches , postcards or other junk .You can eat the food without getting stomach upsets that last three days ( as happens on Bali ) . You can even drink the whiskey and rum without fear of ingesting wood alcohol and going blind.
An added bonus is that everybody pays the same price for everything and they don't have to haggle and bargain with anybody.

I would go to Canada, as I have wanted to go there as long as I can remember. I did have a trip planned to go there on a working holiday in my teens, but it fell through as I was advised through proper channels that work was scarce and not to go so I never got there. Canada is the most beautiful country in the world which has everything, There's the mountains with a scenic rail ride, the lakes and streams, snow and wonderful wild life. I would visit my pen pal in St Brieux in the province of Saskatchewan as she wants to show me the sights of her homeland. As Canada's would be too cold for me coming from Queensland I would visit in the summer time. It is just a dream now as I know I will never get there as I am carer for my husband.

I'd get an accommodation vehicle, e.g. camper van, and travel the Western part of Europe. Start with the UK - ancestors came from there. If I still have the wanderlust, I'd go across to Eastern Europe. Summer in the Northern parts, Winter in the Southern parts. Possibly to Asia - Central Asia interests, eg the Silk Road. Then maybe North America - Canada fascinates. The history of places, scenery; try to get to know the ways of the locals if possible. That's about as far as my adventurousness goes. Perhaps I'd change my mind as time goes on. Who knows.

Definitely the Philippines! The people there are warm and friendly, the beaches there are clean with water that are crystal clear. Food is great with unique local cuisine like the Balut. But above all the greatness of the country, the sinister undercurrent of poverty still remains, and hence it'll be eye-opening and eventful to participate in voluntary work with the local charity group. One example would be the Kapatid Ministry!

Colombia should be on everyones travel list. Despite having its historical issues, it has come a long way in terms of developing their infrastructure and public safety. The people are the kindest and most fun people I have ever encountered and the list of things to do is almost never ending. From lying on the beaches of the Caribbean waters to exploring the desert via horseback to learning to Salsa in the big cities, Colombia never stops providing people with things to do. If its not on your list, then put it on and tick it off.

Most definitely the United Kingdom. I am from Southeast Asia, but I grew up studying in a British International School following the British syllabus. I've learned everything British, from British English to British History and Geography, and suffice to say I've fallen in love with this distant land! It is just steeped in so much tradition, culture, and history (everything from their castles and The Queen, to government customs and old idiosyncrasies), it's absolutely amazing learning about it, I can only imagine how it would be like to be physically immersed directly. I have been to the UK three times before, but those occasions were when I was younger and so unfortunately I can remember little of those travels. I would love to be able to go more often, and so if I wasn't limited by price or any other factor, I would most definitely chose to go to the United Kingdom!

If money was not an road block. I would head straight onto an island, maybe several islands(island hopping) Richard bransons island looks nice, Maldives, Ha long Bay(Vietnam), Phillipine islands. Just the idea of water activities along the beach, relaxing on the sands with some drinks and hidden waterfalls in a forest is incredibly appealing to me. If I could, I would even get married there or even better, live there for life would happen without a second thought. Just nodding off as the sun sets on the beach, along the sands or even on a boat, I would imagine would be an amazing experience. Especially love those kinda nights where it's warm with a cool cold/warm breeze a buzzing(busting?) and hustling night life with a drink in hand, delicious food in the other and company of like minded people is my cup of tea.

The watermelon still has all the black pips. Most produce is seasonal--if not in season, then you cant buy it, though a very few locals know how to get them at times. I have never felt more healthy in my whole life than when I lived in Sri Lanka--even psychologically healthier !! I found it cheaper to shop on most items and services. I felt alot safer walking around and even at night. So many amazing places to see and activities to do in Sri Lanka.

Let's go out of this world? If money was no option I would go to the International space station. I can only imagine it would be the most life changing/ enhancing experience and to be one of only a select few who have ever experienced that would be amazing. Plus it would be a good break from everything on earth - one can dream anyway haha

If I could go anywhere I'd go the Venezuela and hike to the Angel Falls. It is the highest waterfall on earth, it's longest drop is 807m (2648ft). For a bit of perspective thats about the height of two Empire state buildings, or about two and a half Sydney towers.
I've heard that by the time the water reaches the bottom it's mist.

I would go on a huge Europe trip for a year if I had an endless supply of money! But specifically I would go to Italu because it has everything. It has so much history and culture in Rome, I could visit the Vatican and admire the art. Then I could go to the countryside and live like a peasant. But then to top it all off I can go to the beach and relax like a real rich queen! So much to offer!!!

I would like to go to Japan. Then I can visit many places of interest. Shopping and eating are my favorite things to do. There are lots of different delicious foods and heaps of fashionable and unique clothes, useful and creative stationary in Japan. Also, it would be so enjoyable and lovely to have a picnic under a cherry blossom tree with family or friends. In addition, Japan is famous for Animation, so I can buy some gifts with animation design on it for my friends who love watching anime:). Last but not least, I'd love to try on Kimono, a kind of Japanese costume!

Once worked in Darwin and every person who lived in the Northern part of Australia from NW Cape to Townsville stated that Broome was the place to go to. No exceptions.
Cable Beach, camel rides, fishing, pearls, inland 4WD tours, BBQ under the stars, open air cinema, Japanese Cemetry, boating, Aboriginal dance show, scuba diving. It is all there.

Antarctica - what can I say. Then I would go to Barcelona, explore there, after which I would board a Holland America ship to do a Mediterranean cruise, which would take in places along the French Riveria, Italy, Greece, Malta, Croatia, Monaco etc. The cruise would finish in Venice after 22 days, where I would spend at least a week. Then take the fast train from Venice to Rome and spend at least a week in Rome. I would definitely go to the USA and buy the biggest black hummer I could find and drive from west to east on route 66. I have always wanted to do it and see small town America. All the places you see on movies - the street side diners, servers called Flo and taste all the american food along the way.
It would be a foodie tour across the country.
I love driving so it would be a warm and relaxing holiday for me. Also I would go in summer for hopeful good weather and a need not to take too many bulky clothes.
I would go with an empty suitcase and buy all new clothes along the way.
I am also makeup made so this would be a big purchase every step of the way.
I want to go to all those american stereotypes - Walmart to see the People of Walmart, In and Out Burger, Roadside Diner, Taco Bell, etc.
Also see the main attractions along the way.
I would stay in 5 star hotels ONLY and have a massage everyday and a spa day every week.
I could go on but this would definitely be a dream holiday for me.

Being an Australian who has never gone over seas, I would probably head towards going to England and exploring the country side out there. The main reason I would go to England would to be able to get the opportunity to go to a shop that many people in my family talk about. Has anyone here ever had a nice holiday in Australia.

It has to be scenic because I love the to see how each countries differ naturally. One place that I really wanted to go is New Zealand where it has the most beautiful scenery and I'd like to trace the locations where the Lord of the Rings were filmed. That aside, I would to go for an European tour, again for the scenery and cultural experiences.

I have become a huge fan of cruising in recent times. I have taken five over the past two years (two with Royal Caribbean and two with Celebrity). We are about to take our first cruise with Princess in July. So far the cruises have taken us to: New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Singapore, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Malaysia. The one in July takes us to Japan and a small island in Russia.
If I could travel anywhere, it would still be a cruise, but one through Alaska. The cruise price is fine but it is the cost of airfares that is prohibitive.
An Asian River cruise would also be good, and more affordable!
Cheers

Dream destination is Bora Bora on the water, but have done the East Coast on the USA and absolutely loved it. Europe is beautiful. Variety is the spice of life, so mix of climates, mix of cultures. I tend to do sightseeing rather than relaxing, but that is a value for money thing. If money was not an issue, crazy pace sightseeing followed by relaxation to wind down towards the end.

I wish I could do six weeks or so every year and just gradually work through a bucket list of countries and cultures. ahhhhh

Singapore for a cultural education on how the natives live! I've been there before but always seem to forget to see or do something! Go for a month and stay in the city in a 5 star hotel and use public transport to see all the sights. Use a taxi to see all the markets and spend time doing some food sampling in different regions or even a little retail therapy.
They don't have pensions or medicare there, so everyone regardless of age or gender has to work.
Last time we met a 78 year old who was cleaning tables in a restaurant and living with 6 others in a shanty town.
I know it's humid there, but that's why you want a 5 star hotel to go back to when you need a rest and to replenish your energy levels.

Why do people take the time to travel overseas when there is so much of Australia to be seen?, My husband and I love travelling and we make a point to travel every year in January and returning home in April, so far we have covered over 300,000 ks, between Perth and Victoria, we have had the best time ever, especially in Port Lincoln S.A,. The easy going life of getting up when ever you want and travel as far as you wish, and the friends you make along the way, can't be beaten, Going overseas having to forever look over your shoulders that you are not offending so culture, or sect, is something that would never appeal to me, Home is where the heart is and Australia is my home and country

Antarctica is on our bucket list. It's certainly one of the last frontiers that have not been impacted by tourism and/or "progress". To see such a pristine wilderness with a variety of animals, birds and sea creatures in their natural habitat would be a wonderful experience.

Visiting Antarctica is currently very expensive because of it's isolation and the specialty transport required so it would be perfect in a "money is no object" scenario. It's actually one of the first things we come up with when we have those "If we won Lotto ..." discussions :)

I'd go back to Koh Samui Thailand as it's hot with sea breezes, very cheap for shopping i.e. clothes, eating, accommodation, plus booze /hairdressers etc - we just love the Island.

Just came back from 5 nights in Broome WA which was soooooo expensive compared to Samui.

Oh goodness, where wouldn't I go?! Have a world map and aim to colour in every country!

Japan is high on my to-do list, but I want to do it properly so it's something that needs a bit of saving up (time and money).

I'd love to do West-East tours (my name for it), where you start in the West of Europe (eg France) and meander through as many countries as possible, heading East.

Or start at the West coast of the US and meander and noodle around (via a big RV!) heading to the East coast in a very convoluted manner, ticking off every state (yes, I know I'd have to do a jump to Alaska & Hawaii).

There is so much to do so many places to go that you could be there for 10 tens days and not do the same thing twice, It is where the East meets the West. so many cultures to experience from high tea at Raffles to breakfast with the organtangs visiting Chane Prison to going across to Sentosa Island by cable car

My husband and I went on a travel trip in August last year. Read up on Tripadvisor, for tips and assistance to the countries that we were planning to visit.

We started in London ,then went to Santorini, where we attended a dear friend's wedding, then went to Athens Greece, then to Eygpt , Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria. We then travelled to Rome, Italy , then to Venice, Then to Paris France and then back to London before making a long flight back to Malaysia to stay with the in-laws before heading back home to Brisbane.

It was a wonderful trip but it was fast paced. We traveled on buses ,trains, vans etc. Honestly there were days when we woke up and wondered where are we, what time is it and where are we going again???

To be honest I would go back to Samoa...yes its little you can not really see it on the map but it is a great place to relax and be free from stress...its diverse and if you still like to busy life its stil a great little place to be...and the good thing about it is that it does not cost the world...Fiji, Hawaii, other paradise places are abit ore expensive because of flash hotels and all that, but let me tell you if you want to taste what real relaxation is then Samoa is the place to go...you can ask local people who will let you board with them for free and there you can be part of the family hahaha...don't believe me then try it yourself...

Local shops only 5 minutes walk away. We're going back for 4 weeks in under 2 weeks time. Weather tropical & even it if rains for 10 minutes or so, it's still warm approx 30c & we're still wearing our bathers. Only cost really are our flights from Perth WA plus the 6 hour drive to the airport but it's well worth it. Already planning to go there again next year. I would go back to France and follow the Tour de France. Watching it on Sky Sport reminds me of how much I enjoyed my 2 trips to France -firstly in 2000 and 2nd in 2004. The tour followed some of the roads we had taken through the mountains and those lovely quaint little villages. It brought a lump to my throat thinking, hey I have been there. Even so, I would love to go back and just cover every inch of France, even the places I have been. We did the Normandy Coast in 2000, with our son & his wife who were doing their OE, driving down to Paris, across to Dijon and then through the Alps on the Italian border. The second time my husband and I flew to Italy from the UK, then drove around Italy and back along the Med. into France, staying a week in Toulon which was beautiful. Then drove up through to Clermont Ferraud, to St Marlo. Oh it was just so beautiful.

I would take the family for a month of backpacking through Vietnam. It would be to be off the beaten track, to experience the diverse culture and people and amazing simple but delicious food. To experience a life which is not driven by consumerism, a climate that is warm, scenic as well as culturally diverse.

I'd love to trace my ancestors footsteps (McDonald's). On my father's side we come from the highlands of Scotland where we were crofters and kicked off by the English so they could fence the land and raise sheep. Our family then chose to emigrate to Nova Scotia, and after a while a group of them then emigrated to New Zealand and were among the first boatloads to settle in Waipu, north of Whangarei. Photos of those ancestors are on the walls of the Waipu museum. Even though I've never been to Scotland there is a longing in me every time I see photos and hear the bagpipes, to go and see the land for myself. On my mother's side (Anderson's), we come from Prince Edward Island, another beautiful place to visit.

UK starting in Scotland! Apart from catching up with family & friends, would love to attend Endinburgh Comedy Festival and Military Tattoo, then onto a tour that includes all the distillaries and no not just for the taste testing but all the wonderful countryside you have to go through to get to them.
Then take the train down to London & check into a nice hotel & do a walking tour round London before heading to Spain via France, this would be Train & Bus, best way to see all the wonderful sights and not have to worry about driving on the wrong side of the road lol.

These are all great suggestions and places that I've wished to visit but for want of unlimited funds. Canada, absolutely; the exotic middle east including North Africa, Yes; the Arctic region for its pristine remote environment; the French Riviera to rub shoulders with the disgustingly rich. But lets face it, what really makse or breaks a destination are the people you travel with and the ones you meet along the way.

So the answer to this question is "anywhere in this world can be beautiful as long as your with the right person/people"

If you want to go somewhere truly different, visit an Eastern country. We have been to Japan twice. Totally different to anything you have experienced. The manners, politeness and etiquette of the people is unlike anywhere else. The world is such a melting pot but there are few foreigners in Japan so it's interesting to have many eyes on you. They are perfectionists so meals are a work of art, packages are wrapped and presented exquisitely, little crime or graffiti. Don't go if you are a steak and three veg type person, meat costs a bomb!

Having the money and time is the Key.
First, Book me on a freighter to anywhere for 3 weeks or there-abouts.Nothing to do or distract me except maybe to read a book. I'll get off at the last port and find a hotel after I've arrived.
Then I'll begin the holiday, if I like the place I'll stay until I'm bored and then move on, I might choose comfort or adventure, travel in style or on a cattle truck.
Travel is seldom about arriving and all about getting there for me.

Canada in September, start in Vancouver, head west on the Rocky Mountaineer railway - two days through the Rockies - wonderful scenery as autumn unfolds, spend a week in Banff at the Fairmont Spa, total pampering and maybe some white water rafting. Then hire a car and tour around for a while taking photos and stopping wherever we like. After that, an Alaskan cruise - more pampering and majestic scenery.

If I won a lottery, that let me take sufficient time off, I'd do a driving tour of the wine regions of France. ( No, I don't drink, but oh! the smell, the foods!) I would ONLY stay at Relais et Chateaux, or small pensiones. I would finish France at Ax les Bains, cut down through Andorra ( amazing driving, heart in mouth!) pick up some Cointreau and Chambord sans excise, costing about $10/ LARGE bottle. then I'd drive over the drought-stricken north of Spain and go to the Costa Brava. Olives, wine, the sea, the smells...oh, I'd do it all again, every 3-4 years!

Oh, that's easy - top of my wish-list has ALWAYS been Canada & Alaska !

Both my husband & I dream of touring Canada by train, following the routes by which this spectacular country was settled and stopping over in those beautiful, classic resorts @ Banff, Lake Louise etc. Gold Leaf on the Rocky Mountaineer of course, cameras poised.

Somewhere along the way we'd like to see Niagra from the Canadian side, even possibly manage to cross into USA to meet up with some friends in various states, but Canada, in Autumn with its wondrous colours, stunning scenery and SNOW, followed by a first-class cruise in Alaska is our ABSOLUTE dream holiday, for at least 6 weeks.

Then there's the next on the list - a European river cruise on one of the smaller vessels ........ and back to Ireland .....

Tuscany, the South of France and Venice - The country side is beautiful, the wines superb and the people friendly and inviting. We visited these regions in 1999 and had the most wonderful time. The small village of St Paul De Vence in Provence is amazing- a true artists village, very quaint and picturesque- a must on anyone's intinerary. What can one say about Venice, - beautiful old buildings, great food and history. Europe has so much to offer in the way of history. It still amazes me how such beautiful buildings could have been built so long ago, without the benefit of modern cranes and other equipment. If money was unlimited, I would buy a villa in Tuscany and spend my time touring around these regions.

i'd go to America to meet my internet friends, then I'd visit Arlington Cemetery where the Kennedys are buried. I would go visit all the places I could, and see historic sites from the Civil war. Then I'd head off to a hot tropical island for a break, then I'd go to ...everywhere, if I could.

Mind you, after this i want settle down in the Greek Isles for maybe a month , you know, loll around in an outdoor setting supping globulous amounts of a rough red overlooking the blue waters surrounding the isle

I would go cruising the Danube and the Rhine visiting Nuremberg, Budapest, Hungary, Netherlands, Amsterdam, Austria, Slovakia.
Visiting Regensburg, Germany and the restaurant Alte Wurstküche for a beer and bratwurst and afterwards visit the cathedral to hear the “Regensburger Domspatzen,” a boys’ choir.
Stopping at Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and the setting for “The Sound of Music.”
Explore Passau, especially St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Vienna is a must on my trip, with horse-drawn carriages, historic palaces, wonderful architecture, Hundertwasserhaus, giant ferris wheel and the music of The Blue Danube.
Exploring Nuremberg, Bamberg, Würzburg, Wertheim, Miltenberg, Rüdesheim, Loreley, Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne, discovering for myself and experiencing their wines, food, music, castles, abbey's, bridges, architecture, history, museums, galleries, forests, mountains, birds, animals to name a few things I'd like to experience there.
Experiencing a series of 16 locks over a distance of more than 80K would be fun.
I'd visit every UNESCO World Heritage Site on this trip.
I'd hire one of these river cruise boats for a month or two (maybe for three months - as price isn't a problem), making my own itinerary to cover all I want to see with the freedom to stop wherever something catches my eye.
It would be warm, not hot; scenic and relaxing.

I would love to go on a tour of Turkey. I went to Istanbul once, for four days, but didn't get further afield - it was a wonderful city to visit though. Now I'd really like to go further, to Cappadoccia with all the "chimney houses", to the Biblical sites such as Ephesus, and finish back in Istanbul with a trip to the Grand Bazaar, and finally a boat trip on the Bosphorus. There's no harm in dreaming!

I would go back to Moonhut Bungalows in Koh Samui, Thailand where it's around 30c everyday with the occasional thunderstorm. Everything is so cheap there plus the bungalows are right on the beach & basically you live in your bathers all day and there is oodles of fresh mango's, pineapples and bananas. Already been there twice this year and going back in September for another 4 weeks.

There are two place's that i believe you would just love, first Ireland with it's many different shade's of green field's (paddock's) the history is everywhere you go & maybe start off in Dublin where some of the world's most famous Poet's came from & of course the famous Guinness, a tour of the factory is great & you can taste this wonderful drink. Travel through the Lake's of Killarney by byicle if you like then on to Waterford where the famous crystle is made then along the Cliff's of Mogher a wonderful sight. After this you can travel up to Galway where the famous wedding ring of true love was first made, it's called the Claddah Ring. You must not miss Northern Ireland like most people do due to fear of the trouble's but it's just as safe as Australia & it has some of the most beautiful place's to visit like the famous Gaint's Causeway & the Glen's of Antrim, you must also try the Ulster Fry a wonderful meal i am sure you will enjoy. The second place is Switzerland & there are so many wonderful places like Lake Lucern, Zurich & the famous Cog Railway plus their public transport is wonderful & you can ourchase a travel pass for your time there which can help with keeping the cost of travel down a bit. Sometime's the Swiss can be a bit arrogant until they get to know you but if you speake Swiss then you are better off. as i have ratteled on about Ireland so much i will leave you to dream about all the wonderful place's in Switzerland & how close you are to many other nice countrie's sourrounding it. Happy travelling.

Everywhere, does everywhere count?

Honestly if I'd won the lottery the job would get chucked, the bags packed and the first plane booked all within a few days of the cheque clearing. After that it would simply be a case of go, stay, see, experience, then on to the next to do the same. Rinse and repeat.

I think I could while away the next decade or so with that option. *sigh, oh well, back to work now*

I'd really like to go back to Blighty, England that is, only for a visit to see my 91 year old Father whom I haven't seen for 55 years. My Mother left him in 1956 and brought us two kids to Australia telling me he had died after he refused to follow and she refused to go back. Anyway 25 years ago I found out he was still alive and began phoning him. He is heavy hearted about not being a part of our lives and regrets the past. When I found out he was alive, I was raising my own family and have never had the money to travel since, as my Kidneys failed, then had a transplant, then back surgery, etc. and now I'm a bloody Service Pensioner at the age of 60 with only the pension to live on and little hope of ever meeting him before he leaves this world and that saddens me.

Edinburgh, Scotland. My friend decided to go there and work for a year and loved it so much that she is still there 10 years later. The stories she tells of all the things she sees and experiences in a normal working week are so interesting and being so close to other countries she's been able to travel to so many different countries. When she tells of 'just popping over to France for the weekend' it seems amazing for someone like me who lives in Perth.

Almost any rural village or hamlet in France. Enjoy the fabulous buildings, the sheer history of the place, the wonderful regional day-to-day food and drink (not the over-rated haute cuisine of Paris and major cities), and the friendliest, most helpful people you will ever meet. And when they find out you are from Australia, you become long lost family, even if you don't speak French or absolutely murder it in your attempts to talk to people.

Hi Rainbow,

I am an American living in Australia but if money wasn't an issue I would love to go back to the States and do an adventure I have always wanted to do. You have to be an outdoors person to do what I want. Pack up your tent with another person along with your canoe and head for the mouth of the mighty Mississippi river and treck to the Gulf of Mexico which is where it ends. I have done parts of it and it is magical and the Indians you meet along the way are some of the most fasinating people you will ever meet. There will be places along the trip where you will have to carry your canoe for a few miles as there is not enough water in the river to float through. I know that sound strange but it is true and then there are places where you think you are in a lake. Like I said you have to be adventureous and fit to do this trip. For those who do it the trip will live with you forever. Happy traveling!

CANADA!!!!. Would spend ALOT of time in Calgary, (maybe buy a ranch and move there permanent) take the train through the Rocky Mountains, whip through Toronto, take a quick look at Montreal, spend the weekend in Manitoba, sightsee in Sasketwan, and then spend a few months on the awesome Prince Edward Island...oh, and since my ancestors are from there I would probably spend a year or two in Nova Scottia. How could you get bored in a land as big and as beautiful as Canada? :)

I would go to Singapole. I saw in TV places that are extremely unusual in Singapole, such as a mega-fast roller coaster or a outside swimming pool around the edge of a tall building like a sky tower...since I don't have to mind about the price, I would like to try everything unusual, including the food, drink, cloths, events, recreation etc.

I'd like to go to Buenos Aires, then drive all the way to New York. This epic journey was first carried out in 1925 by Aimé Tschiffely, on two horses Mancha and Gato.

Although others have also completed the journey, my geography teacher followed Tschiffley's tracks in the 1960s in a Baby B Morris. He brought the little car to our school, where we rebuilt it. The trip has always amazed me and set a standard I've tried to follow.

The greek Islands, I love greek mythology and the ancient building/ ruins of Greece..
Mostly the sea that surround Greece and beautiful scenery are to die for.
What appeals to me mostly are the warm, out-going people who at the centre of their universe is food and socializing. One day my husband and I will go there.
A place in the Sun wining and dining to greek music and soaking up the history and great stories of the philosophers of the great men of greece.

What an amazingly open question! Anywhere? Regardless of price? So difficult to choose, but I think Africa would win. Somewhere near the centre/west, the culture, the wildlife, all so different to what we have here. Then if there is any change left it would be for Antarctica, the last great wilderness left on earth. But wait... I would love to see the midnight sun, so Norway or Greenland would be in there on the list. "Regardless of price" is so inviting, On the way home I would like to visit some of the old European countries like Italy, Germany, France, Greece (if it isn't broke), Russia, to experience the culture, the food/wine/beer, the man-made and natural scenery..

I'd like to go to the Casbah of Morocco and experience all the magic and mystery of the old Arab world. To wander round all those narrow lanes and alleyways, festooned with exotic silken materials, pottery, jewellery and food. Especially the food - some of the finest in the world, just waiting to be enjoyed, in atmosphere heavy with incense. Then off into the surrounding desert, hot as a frying pan in the blazing tropic tropic sun, with dunes spreading off into infinity all around you while you sit astride your camel. Then back to one of the many absolutely luxurious hotels of the town to freshen up in a cool shower and spend the evening dining and gambling in the casino below. What a way to go!!

Rochester, NY is where my wife is from! We've been married for 5 years, and she's been living in Australia for 4 of them.

She has so many relatives in Rochester that I joke with her that most of Rochester's population is related to her somehow - some 2 million people. I wonder if your pen-pal is one of her relatives …

I would really love to go on a Rhine River cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam because I think it would be a lovely way to see Europe, relaxing and no packing and unpacking.

I think the same too. No unpacking or packing:
Exploring Nuremberg, Bamberg, Würzburg, Wertheim, Miltenberg, Rüdesheim, Loreley, Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne, discovering for myself and experiencing their wines, food, music, castles, Abbies, bridges, architecture, history, museums, galleries, forests, mountains, birds, animals
Experiencing a series of 16 locks over a distance of more than 80K.
I'd visit every UNESCO World Heritage Site on this trip.
I'd hire one of these river cruise boats for a month or two, making my own itinerary to cover all I want to see with the freedom to stop wherever something caught my eye.

Definitely Europe and I would have trouble chosing between Paris and Venice ... but I think Venice would win out.

Venice is so unique and different to anything we have here in Australia. No other city in the world comes close to it.

Sure there other cities that label themselves "Venice of the East" or "Venice of the South Pacific" but they are missing the essence of Venice - the passion and soul which fills and overflows to every part of Venice.

Around every corner is revealed something new, exciting, different and surprising all at once !! The buildings are ancient and some are in ruins but that is the joy of it all.

Definitely a place not to be missed !!!

I would love to go to England again to meet my daughter in law and 2 grandchildren. I would also like to meet my neice in law too. The only thing that is holding me back is an absolute fear of flying again. I went home nearly 20 years ago and we had trouble on the plane. How I got back on to come home again I will never know.

I don't play lotto so I guess I will just have to dream.

If I could go anywhere,. I would go to France to pay my respect to all our soldiers who were killed, or died during World War One.
My grandfather lost his brother in France, and his body has not been recovered.
His name is recorded as being on the Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux.

It's a constant shuttle between Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas & Hilton Lagoon Penthouse in Waikiki til death do us part! Because after 6 years in Europe, 3 years in Texas, 18 months in Tacoma, 11 years in Australia, about a month in NYC, 17 years in Illinois & 22 years in Hawaii, we know what's what, & what's not & perhaps Paris could join us for a Long Island icetea & that's HOT!!

Firstly, definitely seats at the front of the plane, then Canada and Alaska before a winabago trip all around the USA, like Australia, so much to see and do. Would take a lottery win to do and I doubt there would be anything left when we returned.

I'd go to the most isolated, natural environment I could reach (it wouldn't matter if the last 100kms had to be covered on foot), pitch my tent and enjoy God's creation. I could live like that, without modern appliances, electricity or other utilities forever.

Hi Rainbow,
All the lovely things you mentioned in your newsletter about Italy, apply to Australia as well. Of course, it is human nature that the grass seems always greener on the other side of the world, and we do get jaded and take our own blessings for granted.
That said, I would go to marvel at the wonders of ancient Egypt.

Off to Switzerland by air and thence to Murren by funicular, travelling scarily up the side of the monstrously steep mountain, above the clouds and the closest place to heaven, would be an absolute dream of a holiday. Relax, envelopped in fog, hear the cow bells tinkle, sit in front of the log fire enjoying a drink or reading a book and enjoy dinner looking down into the valley of Lauterbrunnen.
Wow!

Drive Route 66 in an open-top car, then across to Niagara Falls, then onto a train and across Canada, stopping for a few days at major spots on the way, then down the West Coast through Seattle, San Francisco and to LA. Nip down to San Diego to the Zoo and Seaworld (return visit), back up to Universal Studios for a few days and finishing up with a week at the Disneyland Resort. And if time and money were no object, we'd then fly over to the UK and tour Scotland and England, nip over to Ireland and then finish up in France and Spain for a couple of weeks...

Definitely it will be Our Moon. I always dream of walking there and even have a BBQ there (that's what I was dreaming when I was a lot younger). But seriously just walking there, sitting down on a big moon rock and enjoy the view of our beautiful blue planet. Tell you what, that feeling and sensation are absolutely once in a lifetime experience. Nothing can beat that.

5 years on a boat? Thanks, but no. 3 days was more than long enough.
By the end of the 2nd week I'd chewed my legs off to alleviate the boredom.

I lived in Canada for 2 years and went back again about 6 years ago - one of the loveliest places I could ever wish to go. Have some lovely friends and a girl friend who lives in Vancouver. I was there during both summer and winter and just adored it. If I could I would live there.

I lived in PEI until age 10, then back every 2-3 years. If you love 'Anne" then you need to go to Cavendish...and yes, it IS that beaitiful. White sands is where they did most of the filming for the series. Don't miss out on lobster suppers, and while on the east coast, try a tour through NS and NB. the Cabot Trail is an adventure in driving!

Yes - Canada is very beautiful - I have only been in Winter but the skiing is awesome & the people are so friendly & welcoming. It has some of the best skiing in the world. Especially at Big White, Silver Star, Sunshine Village & Sun Peaks. One day I would love to spend a year there & enjoy their mountains in both summer & winter. Harley Davidson. California, leave LA and head north on coastal Highway 1 through San Francisco, up into Oregon and keep going until I got to British Columbia. Then back down to Lake Tahoe, through Yosemite etc, through Death Valley,on to Las Vegas then down to Palm Springs,San Diego and back to LA. Oh wait, I did that last year. Oh well, I'd do it again in a heart beat. It's got it all - scenery, great people, great biking weather and roads. Sublime.

That sounds amazing, I recently did a road trip with my family starting in Townsville, QLD. We traveled south to Gympie, spent some time around Gracemere area. Eventually we went west and ending up spending a week on a cattle station helping out with checking fences, feeding cattle and just exploring the place. Going around by road to small towns is the best way to travel Australia, it's a great chance to meet some true Aussie characters.

Codge I would do something very similar

I would get myself a mobile home, hitch a trailer to it put a small off road 4 X 4 on the trailer and head off all around Australia. I would first go to the Grampians, spend a week or so looking around, From there check out the snow fields Mt Buller then move into NSW , so much to see and go spend 2 weeks in Sydney soaking up the fine culture available in this beautiful city, with its gorgeous harbour. After that I would just drive to where ever my heart desired going North towards the top end of Australia, Kakadu, the Daintree tropical rain forest my friends would not see me for a year. What a way to go, you have all the comforts of home in the mobile home and then when you want to go sight seeing un hitch the 4 X 4 and off you go, seeing all the local sights and enjoying the different cultures this BIG WIDE land has to offer ....oh what a way to spend a year imagine all the memories you would make.

Good on you appreciate your own country before it is lost. Everything changes so fast what was there yesterday has been replaced by buildings and /or roads.
