Can anyone please explain to me why fuel has gone up over 25c per litre since Dec 2010.??? With the AUD increasing in strength towards other international currencies shouldn't we be seeing some alleviation in fuel prices. Anyway, does anyone know why we are paying so much for fuel? Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Wen. I believe it is simply collusion by the oil companies. They will refute this claim until the moon vanishes, but Govts. are too lilly livered to take them on.
I have raised the question why diesel fuel prices are so high when it is cheap to produce & I have been given some extraordinary answers, which only support my first sentence.

It's just a reflection on the trend and an economical situation in all world. In the other hand, It's economical game from our government. We can expect more changes in the near future.

There are some legitimate reasons such as price of oil per barrel and the exchange rate. But I've heard so many other "excuses" from trouble in the middle east, our prices are inluenced by the "singapore market" to increased demand in China and lots of people going on holiday in America increasing the demand for fuel. They will always find a new excuse. Easter is approaching, watch the prices then and see if they try to rip off the travelling public yet again and see what excuse is used this time.

Greed.. If fuel was honestly priced according to crude then why has gas also increased?

I will not say what it is that I am wanting to say as I may get myself into trouble but thing I will say is with the amount of finanical break downs in the world we are only gonna see the back end of more financial hardship, yeah we can all work out butts off, but what for??? to constantly have to pay out for things that are so expensive no matter how we look at it and how much money we spend, the government are going to make sure that they get every penny out of us that they can

I think that one of the reasons is that we buy our oil at TAPIS prices and also OIL COMPANIES are RIP OFF MERCHANTS

100% right, we are so messing up with mother nature way and also if the mother decide to take her childrens to school by bus, well to be honest as we all know that the bus fare it's almost the same as the litre price......so in this case not only mothers are struggling even fathers,,,,cus they are the ones that work together planning for the good of there family....

While the fuel prices are going up. There a few ways you can save yourself a bit of money. Try sticking clear of the major petrol stations for one!! I find quite a few of the smaller privately owned stations are cheaper, even with the 4cent discount. A few other things will help you get more out of your precious and expensive tank of fuel. One of them is making sure your tyre pressures are up and correct (you should check this every few weeks because city roads are hell and put alot of pressure on them), if they are low your car will be working harder to push you further. Also backing off the accelerator if you see a red light ahead, this means your car won't come to a stop and you don't need to accelerate so fast when taking off again (will also save your brakes too!!).

But most of all be carefull about putting ethanol blended fuels into your car.... WHILE manufacturers specify that vehicles these days are made to run on this fuel, i've worked in the mechanical industry and I've seen the damage it does to cars! I wouldn't put it in any vehicle I own because the money you save now you WILL pay later in new parts like, fuel pumps, fuel lines, filters etc.

Greed and manipulation. Just read the article in The Age recently that was attributed to a spokesman for BHP BILliton. Quote" The average production cost of their oil is $9.00 That is why.

If u ask me, it may be for our country and community wellfare only. one thing we can do is to cut down , plan and use vehicle when really needed. try to use public transport. dont u think we r compansating the above up 25c per litre of petrol? . i feel yes. good luck.

In the last, little while, crude oil has dropped and the American $ increased. Therefore we should be paying less at the pumps! Am I right????? It seems when things move the other way, petrol goes up,

the trends is going up and now that some of the countries in middle east is not stable this is the time that these big companies take advantage for the price they have the reason to put the price up....

Fuel has increased in price because of all the strife in the middle east.

Yeah maybe, but why is that when the oil price per barrel reduces, we still have to pay for rediculously high petrol price?

as in the year 2000 it was decided that all fosill fuel that created carbon was to be price rated to try and improve our oxygen ie leaded unleaded gas
but dont worry they also decided that all cars would be run on gas dont look at the price on gas when the carbon tax is inforced
we all hope they release the solar car in australi soon as it was released overseas in 2010 for resale to the public
but in australia we are generally 20 years behind the new technology

A very annoying fact is that it jumps UP in leaps and bounds but only trickles to lower prices.

greed!! government taxes... fuel here in NZ is $2.10 per litre and rising, (in fact i think it went up last night again) consider that 8 years ago we paid.79c a litre. now tell me what "average income" Family can afford to fill their tank every week when wages have stayed the same? grrr!

Not exactly sure of the oil companies pricing policies, but as a guide, every $10 rise in the price of a barrel of oil, equals a 10 cent rise at the pump.

hi well there are alot of reason for it not only dollar going up and down but oil as well and also a fuel company is not wanting to go out and change there prices every 5min or day etc so most of them wait a week to see if the price settles before changing it

The price of crude has certainly increased the last couple of weeks with all the trouble overseas. What I don't understand is that you can go past a service station in the morning and go past later it the day and the price has increased by 10 to12 cents

go past a service station in the morning and go past later it the day and the price has increased by 10 to12 cents this is easy to explain it depends on when the companies decide to put the prices...

there is a general trend upwards
