Why aren't they drug tested their running the bloody country. That's BS if people hired at local council and other government organisation I am sorry but I think their should be random drug test for politicians everyone else has to do one when they have a medical for a job.

I don't think that is quite necessary, obviously a police clearance would be needed, however it is unethical to impose that upon someone in that field. You wouldn't insist on a lawyer to have drug testing, it isn't going to enhance or decrease their ability as a professional.

As for politcians, the mob we have got in NZ now have been so naughty that when they got caught out the pressure was so bad 2 resigined and the other was thrown out by his party and is now independent. No hope for him at next election. What gets me, don't know Australian rules but in NZ, it doesn't matter what a poltician does, even while serving, if they are caught they still get their full parliamentary salary for the rest of their life! I'm going to have a go next time

we should all have the right to have our say in cafe chat i have been requested to be a little more gental as there have been complaints in regards to my comments
the rules in australia are nearly the same as new zealand the politicians make the rules so we break them and the politicians get more money for a corrupt system
and if they go to jail the salary is there when they walk out most times

Agree with all that's been said and same goes for New Zealand. At times see it widened as well. Late last year our Police Commissioner was caught speeding and because witnesses saw the cop pull him up he had to give the Commissioner a ticket. However he was not tested for alcohol or drugs when anyone else would have been. Talk about double standards, when the ones who aree meant to uphold the law don't even keep it themselves!

this is a normal practice for all that work for the system

its like in the 80s the drug money just went missing and know in australia the police at that time know own a large part of the shops and they all own at least two houses and the second one is not for the ex wife if you know what i mean

i believe we all know that the sription drug the politician called for was of the record and they got as high as
but wont legalize it as they are scared of the tax they would recieve from the legal sale of certain products

I would like to see this proposition acted on and all politicians tested before attending parliament. I also think it should be broadened to cover all workers.

whilst i was at tafe in 1966 i was introduced to an act with a difference it is called ocupational health and safety it covers the safety of workers coworkers and employers it has an act that requests all to do drug and disease testing prior to commencement of employment as well opening business in australia but a lot of people want this part of training abolished as claim it riduculous to be trained in this manner
it is a very strong law and could help to clean out a lot of problems within certain employment areas including the political circute
thank you
