The POSTIE

Not sure where to place this as a topic.Do you think the postie is not as good as he/she used to be? Why don't they just give a little extra push on our mail when "delivering" it into our mail boxes so that the mail actually lands INSIDE the box and not 3/4 of the way outside the box.If you are not home when the mail arrives it often ends up saturated by the rain and sometimes on the footpath. The other thing I have noticed is if you have a small package which is either delivered by the postie or a special contractor they tend to THROW it onto your doorstep. Now sometimes these small packages contain breakables.

I have to say we love our Postie and our parcel Lady too. He always makes sure that my mail is in the box competely, especially if its raining. He even had one of my letters which had a metallic piece in it ( a Wedding invite) as it had ripped open the envelope which he bought to the door in a clear pastic bag to explain that the metal pieces had been tearing at the envelope and he didnt want me to lose them. And my Parcel lady even puts my smaller parcels between my screen door and front door. And if it's a bigger parcel and does not want to leave it on the doorstep, she just leaves me a little card to pick it up from the Post Office.

Our postie delivers everything except parcels which we pick up from post office but as I live in a small town with about 800 residents this is not too bad the only thing is our mail comes from 3 other places and therefore we do not get our mail until very late in the afternoon and if waiting for parcels can be frustrating but at least I know our postie which is a female actually. But I do agree that when I lived in the city the problems were much different.

In our old house we consistently had a problem with letters only 3/4 of the way in and I rang the local post office and it improved for a while. Then obviously someone else must have done our street as it started happening again. We've since moved house and some does the mail is all the way in, other days 3/4 in. However if we are outside when the postie comes and he has letters for us he will often drive up closer and give the letters to the kids which is really nice.

I feel really lucky now? My postie actually rides his bike to my front door to personally hand me mail & packages that don't fit in the letterbox and he also does this when it is raining! I guess I just took him for granted? Must remember to get him a small Christmas gift!

I often get cards put in my mailbox telling me to pick up a registered letter or parcel from the post office. On most of these occasions I have been home all day on the day the item was supposed to be delivered, so why didn't the postie ring my bell? I know this has happened to some of my friends too. Is it now Australia Post's policy not to deliver these things to us but make us go to pick them up at the post office?

Hi again Yes that happens to me as well. I actually see the postie from my kitchen window which is in the front of the house with a clear view to my letter box. I see him place something in my box..I go to retrieve it to find it relates to a "small package" to be collected and it is usually a small size envelope and no signature required.

Reading your replies, I feel grateful that my parcels and letters are delivered nicely - in the letter box.

The notes I get for parcels arriving when I'm not home are dropped in the letter box as well, I don't know why they would put it on your doorstep or door. It'd get lost very easily that way...

6km isn't that far (that's pretty much the distance to my nearest post office), unless you walk to get the large parcel which would be a bother since the parcel was large enough to need to be taken there in the first place.

Hi WitchyMage Thanks for the reply.Well there seem to be many changes in the postal delivery "persons" wheras once we had the same person for many years.
One point that seems to be missed is...

i have a friend who is a postie and where i live they change them around every so often so they are not doing the same runs all the time, why i do not know.
some of the posties are courteous but i agree that for the best part they are in too much of a hurry and dont care what happens to your mail.

My attitude and situation is positive like yours WitchyMage. I'm sure Australia Post aim for service of a high standard... so make a complaint to them. Every company will have it's efficient workers, but maybe some slack ones as well. Notify, rather than blame the company for bad service!
Ours is great so we're keeping him!

I've rarely been home for the post so I've unfortunately been unable to meet the postie. I've missed out on something nice.

Do you ever get the parcels at the local post office? They do make a very valid reason for taking it to the shopping centre one, since they need to make sure that they use every moment of their time as efficiently as possible. Meaning if they are going there as their next stop, that post office will have to be where your parcel and everyone else's is dropped off. It would be absolutely wonderful if they could drop it off at your local one, but if it is off their route, it would be an inefficiently way of working and also a more likely cause of problems such as lost parcels. Convenience for them (and perhaps other people receiving packages) is much more important to them.

I do sympathise with you, though, as I know shopping centres can be a pain to find parking, but it is much better than roadside parking in an industrial/commercial area where there is rarely a parking spot. For your sake, I hope that something may change and they are able to take parcels in your area to the local post office.

One point that seems to be missed is when there is a local post office very close where the undelivered parcel (or it could even be a small package if it needs to be signed for), could be left, it seems rediculous to then take it to a very much further away post office with difficult parking, and is in a congested shopping centre. Not everyone has time on their hands and the means to get to that post office.

yes and with mine they do not take the parcel to the very close by post office, do they? No they take it 6 kms away in a hard to park place.!! When I asked about this I was told it depends which way the driver is heading towards the post office or away from ... Really I ask you ???

I find that the most anoying thing is that the little notes they leave for large items don't always stay on the door & therefore if you don't pick up the parcel the post office returns to the sender. making you re request the item be sent
