Can anyone tell me why people now hate Kevin Rudd?

Yes, he reminds me of Tim Brooke-Taylor (google if you don't know who I'm talking about).
Yes the "fair shake of the sauce bottle" thing was incredibly try-hard.
But, wasn't he the head of a whole entire party? Didn't they & even the opposition have to reach some sort of accord to enact legislation? Didn't Australia manage to miss the worst of the Global Financial Crisis? Did he personally screw up the insulation? I'm pretty sure that one was a group effort.
I just don't get why people think changing the person at the top of the pile will change the entire party's policies or the whole country somehow.

Kevin Rudd, got the job as the PM, he should of at least been able to see his full term out. Labour hasn't been the same since!!

I think you are being rather harsh on Peter Garrett. He is not just a rock star in politics but a caring person. I was working in an insulation company while all that was going on an unfortunately there are always shonks who try and milk the system. The same thing happened with some schools and shonky contractors. No matter what, the Insulation idea was a good one and did help a lot of people.
Whether you like Kevin Rudd or not the way his party got rid of him was wrong and ok I'm a labor supporter but open to a change in government if they stop squabbling and just come up with some firm decisions and policies and listen more to the people of Australia.

He seemed like a small boy who had dropped his ice cream when he lost the last election. He needs a more robust approach to life.

I don't think all people do hate Kevin Rudd.
Personally, I think it would be a very difficult personal choice to stay as a member of paliament after having been given the boot by your own party.
A lot of polly's would have just walked away to a cushy job. ( but I suppose money isn't an issue in his case)

We've had some great leaders who have been failed by their political parties. Noteably John Hewson ( who couldn't explain the effect of GST on the ingredients of a cake)

We wanted a Prime Minister, not a baker, you may remember he was replaced by John Howard.

The uncanny similarity is the promises of Howard and Gillard were they would never introduce the encumbents policy and then immediately upon achieving the top job they did exactly what they said they would never do.

Howard -GST
Gillard - Carbon tax

And we continued to vote for them. What does that say about us.
It is said you get the government you deserve.

Isn't politics just so damn (ok, I can't say it). I'm biased. I've been a Labor votor all my life.
Yes, I admired Keven Rudd. I thought he was a great prime minister. Unfortunately I was immersed in my own illness when he was deposed so don't know what happened (even now).
Is it just because I'm a woman? She shares my birthday. I think Julia Gillard is doing a fine job against incredible odds.
As for Abbott. The less said the better.

We missed the Global Financial Crisis not because of Kev Rudd's management or his party. Have you forgotten how much was in the budget surplus left by the Coilition?( They had to fix up the mess left by the previous Labor Gov.) The Rudd government wiped out that surlus in less the 12 months and then Julia put us into massive debt by her terrible decisions in the short time she has been PM. Once again Australia has a big spending Labor Gov. that will never stop wasting money and making decisions that are just plain stupid.

In my opinion Kevin Rudd used the position of PM to better his own agenda. He is a very arrogant and self important man. His real objective is to sit on the UN Council. He has spent millions of taxpayers money in the pursute of this aim. Recently he invited members of African and other countries to Australia and lavished them with the very best in accommodation and entertainment so that he could " buy" their vote.(article in the Weekend Australian newspaper) Am I the only person who is concerned about this? Does Australia really need a seat on the UN Council? As Foreign Miinister he is in a very poweeful position to travel the world and spread this idea. Why is this going on without th backing of all Australians? The UN doesnt have the power or onfluence it used to in the world so I dont see why Australia should spend millions each each just to join - how much influence would we have? Seriously we are a tiny country and not in any real position to tell other countries what to do.

When Kevin Rudd became Prime Misnister, I was afraid of what his leadership would mean to Australia. I believe Kevin Rudd's vision for Australia was well intentioned. I believe he is a genuinely compassionate man, I've seen sincerity in this man when Australia and other countries have faced incredible crisis. I think this is a decent man, who had Australia's interests at heart, but unfortunately was never given the chance to meet his full potential in an extremely challenging roll. I admire Kevin Rudd, and though there were mistakes made under his leadership, I don't believe there was any malice intended on his part, and I do think his intentions were highly admirable.

I think Kevin Rudd was the greatest for his time but being a person with forsight he put many people off side this man should have been given a award for doing a great job no body should taken otice of comments made by the USA diplomat,we know their country caused the rescesion in the first place that cause dme to loose money too as well as every one else the problem is people are blind when a person does best to help his country,s citizens ie new schools, housing ,solar energy ,insulation as you cannot blame the giver for somebody else neglance maybe some homes already had faulty wireing and needed checking any way, allways turn off power at meter box before entering roof cavity to be on the safe side.

I don't hate Kevin Rudd, most Pollies are unsavoury and I found him to be inoffensive, so really don't know why, anyone who comes from Nambour, isn't usually interesting enough or nasty enough to hate, its a mystery lol.

Hey akasha66 I am sure people from Nambour are just great, even interesting, it is just that a couple of guys from there are way out of their comfort zone. Kevin is so arogant and was in politics really to put into place some very strange policies, he really wanted a seat on the UN and then there is Wayne - well what can you say about the ""best treasurer in the world"????

I really believe the country was better off with Kevin Rudd, I don`t really think people give him credit, I think he is a man of strong beliefs in right and wrong, the shimozle with the insulation was caused by shonky business practices, from some companies, with no scruples, trying to make fast money at tax payers expense, and ruining the lives of a lot of people, no Kevin Rudd was not to blame, the main reason he was stabbed in the back was because of the mining union being greedy, he was trying to stand firm, the unions got to the labor faction, hence no Kevin Rudd, yes thats right and yes I did probably vote for the person who could led us through, not particially the party, Labor party have lost me, Ms Gillard is a puppet for the party, mind you tony abbot no way, he is such a wishy washy character

Unfortunately people don't vote for political parties, just the visible manifestation; the figurehead. It's completely subjective - If they are perceived as looking strange or talking differently ie hair or dress our strong human instinct is always to dismiss them. For mine, using this as a reference, I can't vote for any of them. How could you vote for Johnny Appleseed, Norelle Hayseed or Bob Browneye (Boris Karloff reincarnate)?

Same. It's such a shame I won't be voting FOR someone, just against the one I think would be worse.

I totally agree with you.
he did a great job considering he became the PM and had to tackle the Global Financial Crisis immediately. AND Australia fared a lot better than most other countries.
And, no the politicians DID NOT screw up the roof insulation business. That was done by a few shonky workers.
It was a great inovation and the majority of us are very happy with it.
I personally do not like what was done to him but will have to still vote for labour -only because Tony Abbott will be disastrous for this country.

Hi goergie, thanks for your comment - I can tell you after watching the incompetence of most of the ministers and polies of this government I am sure I could do a better job and if I were 30 years younger I would go for it. Why is it that the wrong people seem to go for politics? Some of the MPs of some areas must shrink with horror at the way the person they voted for is nothing more than a puppet when they get to Canberra and the 'boss' hands out the questions that will only be the ones asked in the House. If you watch the way they read out the question they just don't seem to have any real conviction in what they are asking. It is a clever play for the government to restrict the chance for the Opposition to ask questions by having questions asked by their own side which take up nearly all the question time. Oh I wish I had taken more notice of what really goes on in political parties when I was young I would dearly loved to have stood for election as a MP. I lived in Canberra at the time and there was a possibility that it could have happened but I did not pursue it (too busy being a mum and teacher?)

Iagree with what you have said,i dont think it was right the way KEVIN RUDD was kicked out yes thats the same as i feel i dont want ABBOTT to get in ,i think he will distroy every thing

I didn't vote for Kevin Rudd, but I do have a lot of respect for him, he did his best, I think if nothing else he was a wonderful Foreign Minister. Julia Gillard is PM, I would never vote for her, but there certainly isn't a great deal of choice. I'm not a big fan of Tony Abbott either, honestly I think K Rudd looks good by comparison!

I agree that having Mr Rabbot as leader would be bad. I hate the way he is trying to set people against needy groups like refugees and welfare recipients.
Australia is a big hearted nation,...

I think your opinion of Tony Abbott is wrong - he is the man wearing his lycra who participates in events that raise an amazing amount of money and should be recognised for the good he does. The media are always so critical of him, but I dont see them out doing good things. As for Julia, does she actually care about antthing but being PM. You haven't forgotten how she got the job have you? This government was not voted in by the people of this country and is only there by the "deals" she did with the Independents and Greens. If you don't want to vote for the Coalition that is your right, but please think carefully about who you want to govern this country.

Are they mad the Taliban have always been there and will be very happy to get rid of the US and us so they can get down to planning some other awful event, but this time they will have plenty of foreign money.
I have been listening closely the reaction of people who are asked what they think of this government (I won't give them a capital G) and it sure isn't pretty what they are saying. Even their own are not being kind.
I watched part of the ACTU conference held in Melbourne the other day and agreed with Mr. Kelty when he said that this government has to stop blaming everyone else for their downfall - they have brought it on themselves with their disasterous decisions and the amount of money that has been wasted. Gosh we could have the disability insurance up and running and also the dentalcare. Yes we must vote them out and try to repair the damage. It is going to be tough no doubt that but with a "real" Government we will get there.

I couldn't agree more! Labour is on the way out and the sooner the better! If it was not for the independents and the Greens then Julia would not be in power now! All they seen to do is argue among themselves and back-stab each other. The budget was a last ditch effort to get votes when election comes, but all it has done is target the lower income people and forget about those who are working hard to make ends meet. They need to call an election sooner rather than later and get our country back on track before we end up with nothing left at all.

Kevin Rudd was not a good PM some of his policies were wrong for this country. This Labor government is NOT true Labor just ask some older members of the party. Julia is doing more harm and frankly I think a of Labor voters will not vote for this lot. There is so much wealing and dealing going on just so she can stay in her job. I think we need a change of government and it needs to happen soon. The amout of money that has been wasted is criminal and the lnger they stay in power the harder it is going to be for all of us to pay back the debt.

To terribrown.
Yes I agree with you he is only one man he cannot know everything it is up to the minister responsible, being Peter Garrett and even he has to rely on other people for information. No Minister knows everything about the post they stand for they should be able to trust experts who advise them. If they are given wrong advice then it those experts (so called experts) who are supposed to advise them. Ministers are shuffled around so many time into different positions they cannot know everything. The workers who scammed the system and the companies who went along and did not check on them are the ones who should be punished. Not Kevin Rudd who was trying to do the right thing and help people. I also think pop stars and sporting identies like Peter Garrett and the like should not be in these positions just because thery are well known entertainers, he has been a disaster from the start just like Justin Madden..
