Government & Politics

According to all the political commentators and the polls, Labor will be wiped out at the next Federal election. The reasons for this are numerous and this government has made a lot of mistakes and broken some promises. However, from what I have researched, they have fulfilled most of those promises but have been running so fast that the rest of us just cannot keep up. I believe the alternative to this government has many more problems in their ranks. Polls are hard to believe and I would suggest that many of us just say we will not vote for a certain party as a protest to what they perceive is unjust but at the polling booth they still vote for that party. What do others think?

the main problem is the boys in the back room who try to control everything without having the guts to stand up themselves and be counted

I think you are right about the fact that people just follow the same patern they have always followed when it comes to voting. Most people vote for the same party every time instead of really making their vote count. Others will vote for a party they would never usually vote for just to "punish" the party they usually vote for. This why polls don't show what is really going on. The only poll that counts is the one at the end of the process of counting the votes. Labor were shocked that they didn't win the last election, the polls said they would because everyone loved Julia! The only reason she got the PM job is because she sold out to the independents (who didn't do the right thing by the people who voted for them). Politics is a dirty business and politicians (at least most of them it seems to me) are in it for their own gains. Lets face it, are any of the Cabinet Ministers really qualified to govern a country. Most of them are Union heavies, not qualified to fulfil the porfolios they are given. Our PM is no "statesman" she has no class and to me acts more like a unionist than the leader of our country. Mind you she wasn't elected as PM so really she should not hold the position.

It's time to veer away from the two party system in this country and start looking at minor parties and independents. Labor and the coalition are just two sides of the same coin, the public gets screwed which ever way they flip it.

Now is the time for no bullshit governing with so many natural disasters, and very real, important issues to be dealt with. Hard important decisions need to be made for the benefit of the population, not political parties or other countries we are beholding to.

I always thought the role of government was to collect taxes to run the country for the benefit of the people and their will. Tax payers money is simply wasted by a bureaucracy doing their own will. It's time to strip away the wrapping and get to the heart of the matter, perhaps the Governor General would be a good place to start.

I agree with you, but even if I vote for an independant these days he joins up with one or the other. I'm totally discouraged about politics!

At the momenmt indicators are that Labor could well and truly lose the next election. Bding held captive by the right or the left places an incumbent Prime Minister in a very dicey political position. Particularly for the present PM being captive of the Left places her off line with the right of the Labor Party and being further captive of the Greens just about places her in no man's land. Her arrogance whether perceived or real wins no votes for her in bad times. Promises have been broken and because of the nature of her captivity by the left and the Greens she is continually being distracted by pressure to address issues that I doubt will help her win an election. these distractions take her further away from the real issues that the electorate appears to want her to address.

Never estimate the protest vote, there are too many Australian elections where the protest vote has outed an incumbent PM.

I do not believe that an alternate government would have any more problems in its ranks that the current one. All governments over time tend to do the same things but they do them in different time frames.

K07Was stabbed in the back! The alternative to Julia is a man who has not had an original thought since joining politics and can only follow his leaders dictates. I do not want to see a congenital liar pulling the Governments strings in the background, After all--he set a record for being the only serving PM to lose his seat. Budgie smuggler Tony has no credibility with me.

Where do we go from here, jackeroo. My comments were posted before Julia stabbed K07 in the back. I'm certainly not voting for Labor now, as I believe the faceless men will call the shots

Was Julia doing this on her own--? How much pressure was there from the power brokers in the party?

KO7 has been stacking up his political negatives ever since he joined the Labor Party and the ranks of the Queensland Government He is stil suiciding trying to drum up support for gay marriage when he was against the issues when in government. He just swings and it is usally on a tight rope that ends up as noose for his political future. I doubt if he has taken in the fact that he was dumped by the party as the PM.

You always have the choice of voting for a party, the local member or your principles developed out of your political philosophy.

these choices are important
