We Australians love our sport but at what cost? What drives the financial structure of male sports in this country and why do female sports not receive the same?

Hi Mermaid

The difference in standards between men's and women's sport is immense; this is reflected in the rewards for competing and success. If women were serious about competing for the prize money available to men, they should try and have the rules changed to allow them to compete in open events. I doubt you'd get many takers.

women want the same money but they dont play as hard or as strong as men as a exmaple in tennis the women want the same money and only play 3 sets at the most where the men play best of 5 sets at grandslams and men hit the ball a lot harder, faster, and longer than women and thats why men get paid more money than women.

it all comes down to who people want to see. if they tell us this person is number one and they are the best player ever in their sport then people want to see them. quite often its a male athlete. its about getting people excited for watching females athletes as well.

People seem to enjoy sport where there is a risk of injury as in rugby or even boxing. Women's sport is much more predictable. The media seem to write 80% more about men's sport than women's sport.More money will be paid to those in a sport that has the highest audience participation. In swimming, tennis, athletics etc. men and women rate the same if they are champions.

I think sports are still very male orientated & it's time the ladies became more demanding.

It's the same here in NZ, for years the boards governing the sports were male dominated but not it's starting to change etc.
For different sports to get funding they had to meet certain criteria but allas it was up to the individuals to raise the money themselves or get sponsorship but thats hard especially in this hard times, there needs to be a corperation that helps every sporting body or it's going to have huge ramifications further along the road

I think that men demand, men recieve. But really to lots it is a paid job. Women trot along and watch the men at play, so the $ roll in..
