I was watching the above TED talk and thought, why does there have to be more 'blacks' in the senate. And similarly, why must there be more women in roles?
Why can't the world be as competitive as possible and we just put in the 'best' person for the roles regardless of race of colour.
When you think about all the 'cross race' breeding going on around the world, we'll all become a nice shade of beige soon enough. What about then? Take out the colour aspect of discrimination.

Anyway, just some thoughts...

I completely agree, the best person should get the job regardless of colour, sex or age.

Agree! It should be on who can do the job best, not by having set numbers of people types because thereby is the recipe for disaster.

And this is the crux of this topic.
Stop trying to employ females for the sake of having females
Stop trying to employ colour for no other reason than to make a rainbow.

could not agree more. discrimination starts when people segregate others depending on the "race" , "gender" , or other "attributes" ; if a person is suited to a role then they should have it on ability, not to make up numbers of a particular "type"

If you were the head of a company, how would you respond to the pressures of society saying you needed to diversify?

if i were head of a Company, Social pressure would not influence my running of the Company. or maybe you are sugesting that Company policies be dictated by the masses ?
