i also have Tinnitus. it is constant and sometimes almost numbing. as far as i know, there is no know medical treatment but one can eliminate most of it by not concentrating on the noise. as the saying goes " ignorance is bliss" . at least when applied to Tinnitus.

I probably had it for years and never really knew, can help with Meieres's disease though if it gets to that stage.

Hello Sally & all that replied to her, I think all your tips are good & I will be trying some them / have already tried some. It's annoying !!!

I ended up at my doctor with my tinnitus. She asked if I had been to an audiologist .. (I had ... & had excellent hearing, but tinnitus aids were $2,000 per ear & that was unaffordable), doc also wanted me to see an ENT specialist ....I was reluctant.

This is what she had me do .... take sudafed for 5 days, but no longer, she gave me a nasal wash bottle. The brand is NeilMed. I bet there are others on the market that are as good. She also gave me a Nasal Spray ... it's name is Nasonex ... active ingredient is mometasone furoate. I'm almost certain that it's a prescription only drug ... so you may need to see a doc to get it.

That was roughly a year ago .... what ever my tinnitus is caused by, has been made less worse, with doc. instructions. It does flare up though, & I'm on my 3rd flare up ...... I've been really slack at doing routine stuff, like flushing out
my sinuses .... while there is a cure, there is relief. I really like the water fountain idea for white noise.

Tinnitus is often made worse by stress and Caffeine also doesn't help so 2 things to help is reduce your stress levels if possible and cut down on Coffee and other caffeine loaded drinks.
There is no known cure but it can come and go and some people get it much worse than others. The best place to look for advice is the Tinnitus website http://tinnitussa.org/

Sally like you I have tinnitus caused by a machine gun explosion and things I have found that help are tapes of rushung noises or of running water. I was also advised to get a small water fountain to place by my bed and have it running as the sound of the water trickling can be quite soothing. It isn't always possible but try to avoid being in total silence. I find situations like that m seems much louder. By the same token try to avoid high pitched noises such as a child shrieking.
Other than that I don't know of anything to help. There is, I believe a Tinnitus Society which, if you contacted them may be able to give some help.
Sadly there is no cure I'm sorry to say, especially if it is mechanical like mine. I do believe there is an operation for Neuroligical Tinnitus whereby an implant is placed in the skull near/behind the ear but no doubt it is expensive.

I also heard about the implant but have no idea what it costs, and thank you very much for the advice on the fountain, I'll try

I was diagnosed with Tinnitus last year when I went to see my doctor about a loud drumming noise in my ears. I went to see an audiologist and he tested me
and found that I could be suffering from Tinnitus. I now still have this problem
I read on the internet that it could last up to 2 years or longer, anyway
I guess that I will just have to put up with this.

Also, as it was not serious I can put up with this.

Thank you Daisy
just trying to listen to music all the time and it helps but the night is a nightmare I never heard of gad-gits?
