It is a commercialised world these days run by greed, rather than business ethics.I don't need to comment on the obvious on why they need ad's.I'd like to know when the regularitory body who oversees the commercials/ad's, will become competent and do their job!

Advertising is sooo annoying, although I tend to agree it gives one time to get up and do other things. Even pay TV now has gone overboard with ads. I have counted 10 ads in the ad breaks. Seems to be more ads than program these days. When we first subscribed to pay tv many years ago, the benefits were that there were NO ads. This has gone by the wayside, subject to commercialism and the almighty dollar. There needs to be more regulation on the amount of advertising in a program or people will eventually just switch off. I do not watch advertising at all so its wasted on me.

i recently got rid of my foxtel, the only thing i found good with it was it didnt have ads.
I feel that free to air tv could definatly cut down on the amount of ads they run during a program,u end up getting 6 minutes of show and ten minutes of ads it is rediculous. Therefore a show that should last an hour and half lasts over two hours sometimes.

Free-to-air tv is free because of advertising revenue. Advertising is to persuade us to part with our money, not to inform or educate; then it's our choice what we do or don't buy. When we remember that our inner peace and happiness is just that - inside us - then the urge for outside stuff is diminished.

Bottom line is: We still can take responsibility for our own choices. Just because there is a glitzy ad and you don't want or need what is advertised. We still have the power to ignore it.

I don't mind most ads, they are good for a toilet stop. Though they are mainly annoying if I'm watching a movie that is nearly finished and they jam maybe 3 ad breaks in the last 15 minutes-when there is probably only 5 minutes left of movie-so you get 10 minutes ad and 5 minutes movie in the last 15 minutes.

Keeps the world going round.
Although you may not want or need the 'junk' advertised, there may be others that do.
If you're after tv without the ads, then I suggest you buy the dvd's or watch ABC where there are fewer ads.

Some ads are very entertaining.....I stay and watch them. Some ads are so annoying like that little red haired boy in the Mitsubishi ad chatting away, that's when I turn the sound OFF.

agreed! we are constantly being badgered to buy things we don't need although the planet is stressed to the max and so many people have nothing. why can't we learn to choose more wisely things that will last instead of the rubbish that is foisted on us. trying to watch a program on tv has become quite un enjoyable with all the constant ads.
