The best tip i could give you is EAT BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING!
I know that everyone says it but it really does kick start your metabolism for the day and helps to reduce the amount of snacking that you do.

If you eat good food within a normal portion range and snack regularly you dont need to focus on the weight it will heal itself!
good food = fruit, veg, meat, chicken, fish, unprocessed grains, no processed sugar, nuts, seeds, olive or coconut oil,

It is the simplest thing in the world...
Eat healthy and get active!!
Sitting on your ass watching tv eating takeaway food is NOT going to help anyone lose weight.. EVER!!

Start out slow, and work your way up..
It's not easy, but it wasn't meant to be, otherwise everyone would look like a supermodel..
It's hard work, but the payoff, WELL worth it!
You won't realise until you get there how different everything is..

Depends on your time frame! Best way to lose weight is to boost your BMR (basal metabolic rate) to assist with burning more calories when your not actually exercising.
Think of your BMR as the rate at which your body keeps you alive. The harder it has to work to do this, the more calories that get used doing it.
Building lean muscle will work as your body will need more blood on a daily basis to support the extra cells but also because the added weight will cause the surrounding muscles to work harder.
You should also try to eat foods with high protein and low carbs. Black beans are a great example as the amount of protein is high enough that you'll use up the carbs just digesting it. This is because protein is difficult for your body to digest.
This is assuming your trying to lose pure fat and not just overall weight.
If your trying to lose overall weight, create a calorie deficit in your diet and get on the cardio for a couple hours a day!
