What do you expect from your mobile phone company? Who are you with? What makes you stay with a company or move? Is it about price, reception, product choice, customer service or overall brand? And finally do you have any allegiance to any of the mobile providers? Do they instill loyalty in you and if so why?

i am with optus for my mobile phone and my wireless internet...have been with them for about 3 years...their instore customer service needs to improve more...the last time i went in store i was not the best...i have had better in the past....

I have just moved to TPG, they currently lease space on the Vodafone network.
No tied in contract, pay monthly in advance, $15.00 a month for the first 6 months then $30 a month, one can port ones mobile number.
What do I get for the $15 a month I am paying them, , not a lot! just a hell of a lot more than most other Mobile telecom companies offer; namely, unlimited national calls and texts, and 100 minutes of International calls a month, with a measly 3GB of data, which I don't actually use. Worth a look, especially if one lives in a major centre.

Telstra wanted my money and nothing else
optus is amazing!!
$36 unlimited calls, text, limited international text and call, 10gb data

I live in a rural area so the only reliable Telco for me is Telstra. I see others getting frustrated with their Telco, no service, calls drop out & having to walk around everywhere trying to get a signal.

Telstra are to expensive but can have the best reception at times, I've been with Virgin for many years but recently I moved to Kogan the deal was unlimited calls and texts for under $10 per month and so far I have found them to be good as a disabled pensioner it helps me to talk to my family and not worry about the cost.

I use Southern Phone Company since 2010 and it looks after regional areas of Australia. I moved from Telstra and happy with Southern Phones service. No problems with the price as it is cheaper at Southern Phones than Telstra. Southern Phones is a small carrier in Australia and has a technical section too call for any problems. I don't have too wait endlessly like being with Telstra.

For over 10 years I've been with 3/Vodafone and found them good - if a little expensive. So once my contract ended I switched to Aldi mobile. I've been with them for over 2 months and have had NO problems. I spend $25 a month (instead of $77) now my phone is paid for. I'm paying monthly so not bound by a contract and see no reason to change. Last weekend I was in a country area of WA where I encountered poor reception with Vodafone. Aldi + Telstra were no problem, the reception was noticeably better. I see no reason to change from Aldi. When I want to upgrade from my Apple i6 I have to choose between buying it outright and staying with Aldi Mobile or returning to Vodafone for a phone + contract.

I expect service, being able to use my phone and all its functions when i want to. I expect to only pay what i agreed to pay, not pay extra if the company decides to up its charges.
I am with Vodafone under contract.
I went with Vodafone as at the time they were the best deal with phone and data.
I would go with what ever company met my needs. As i have not been rewarded for staying with or being a good customer with Vodafone.

I expect no drop outs , I am with Optus , l like pleasant staff to deal with , as service makes me stay with a company along with price , I love Optus they are very helpful and understanding , they solve problems for me fast .

I expect very little from my mobile phone company, thus am seldom disappointed. As I make very few outgoing calls, the cost is not great so I make do with the phone that I have and have little reason to change it.

I simply expect the best of the best when it comes to technology. My provider at the moment is Telstra which is the leader of Telecommunications within Australia who owns 98% of the countries infrastructure. I currently pay premium prices for what I expect to be premium products and services.
As much as I wish to instill loyalty to the company, I have come to realize that you can get the same products and services which companies who do not charge and arm an leg simply because they blow smoke up yours. The price is substantially different compared to Optus and there is really no difference but the price.
The only thing I can say about Telstra which is a plus at the moment is that with the NBN infrastructure being put in place, you can be sure who will be getting their hands on it first but other then that, money wise and patience; it's best to look into other providers.

I have tried three different companies so far, they had different facilities.But recently one facility which used before didn't have a good customer service they made all decisions regarding my facility without informing. So far the one I'm using have a good customer service and have much faculties that I was looking for.

I'm with Optus. They provide a very good service but not as good coverage as Telstra. Only stay because of the significant cost increase to go with Telstra.

I travel all over on my motorcycles doing adventurer riding going to the most out of the way places I can get to. Initially I was with Vodafone but quickly discovered they were hopeless when I came to coverage and service. I changed to Telstra and haven't looked back. I get great coverage around Australia as well as good customer services when little problems have arisen. Soon we will be moving to our new property which I only get one bar of service, we will be installing an approved mobile signal booster which will then give us coverage for most of the property.

Changed to Aldi Mobile on PAYG plan as I dont use much and was paying a monthly fee with TPG each month and not using it so was pointless, was paying over 2 years and I thought it would be a pain to change and cost me and this and that, BUT its the best decision at this stage (plus to save money as not being able to work leaves minimal funds)

Telstra and I expect more explanation why they are ripping people off ?
data service expiry is 1 date , your credit expiry is another date usually 1 month later, they failed to explain why when your data service expires, they steal your credit also even if you still have credit and 1 month till expiry !!
they are they only company to have coverage in my area but being a multimillion dollar company they think they can do what they want , when they want and how they want , and we the people are too insignificant for them to treat any other way

I like TPG with the inclusions but with having poor service is not fun, but go got Telstra and you pay double plus to get the same inclusions!

I have been with Telstra for about 22years. I am often not considered a loyal customer. Recently I was told (whilst making a complaint about the service) that I am now eligible for a 20% discount on my bills, were they going to tell me this before I put in a complaint? However, before the complaint, I needed a mobile phone for work - there was very limited choice in phones, it was very expensive and I am now on paying for a plan allowing me to make 600 free call. I am lucky if I make 100 calls a month. This was the cheapest package they could do for me. Since cancelling Foxtel, my bill is even higher. In other words my bill would be cheaper if I kept Foxtel, the service that I dont need or want. I still remain with Telstra as I prefer consistency and hope that the provider will give a good service.
I was happier with Dodo who gave me a cheap package. If I rejoin Dodo they will put me on an expensive package. So Telstra it is.

Currently with Optus for mobile phone ONLY - have been with Optus for over 10 years now mainly due to the fact that Optus has the BEST reception where I live and all of my friends and family are with them too. Not the cheapest carrier, but certainly the most reliable in my area, so I suppose it depends on what you want from your mobile service. I only use my mobile for talking and texting - everything else I do on my laptop.

I expect a reliable service from my mobile phone company. I do believe that you get what you pay for. I'm with Vodafone and have been for about 5 years. Really bad phone reception or a better deal elsewhere would make me switch companies. I mainly look at price when it comes to mobile companies. Where I live here on the Sunshine Coast Vodafone has pretty good and fast data. Even if I only have a couple of bars I still get decent data speeds. Our ADSL was down last Friday night due to a Telstra problem, my Vodafone data was much better than my husband's Optus data, he had to go outside to get a decent signal! I doubt I'll be changing providers and that has nothing to do with loyalty and everything to do with best value for money.

We expect excellent coverage (we live in regional Victoria, on the National Highway) and great customer service.
We're currently with Telstra, but about to shift to Internode (who run on the Optus network). The coverage is comparable, but we will save about 50% for two mobile phones by changing.
Up until we shifted to regional Vic, we'd always been with Vodafone, ever since I first got a mobile phone in about 1998. Then they had a lot of problems in 2009/2010, and the lack of coverage was a big issue where we live. So we went to Telstra who seem to have the best coverage in the regional areas.
I do like to be loyal to a provider, but sometimes the personal economics will yell louder than corporate loyalty!

Good reception on the illawarra line going through the underground tunnels towards Bondi Junction on the Telstra 4G network.

I am always loyal to Telstra I have been with them for about 20 years.
And now they offer loyal customers discounts on movie tickets etc.

Well i have to say that Im not happy with my current provider, Telstra. I currently spend $25 a month for $300 of calls per month with 200mb of data. I dont care about the data, but have recently found that im making too many calls. Telstra doesnt have a reasonable cost for a sim plan that includes unlimited minutes to any mobile. Thats why Im thinking of moving to Optus. I dont have any loyalty really, Im just looking for whats best for me

I have always had the one phone company for the past 30 years Telstra and they also provide my mobile phone and internet.
I am very loyal to them as they are an Australian company.
If I have an issue it is always solved the reception is always excellent and I have even phoned them up and got an Australian on the phone and I did tell them that this was good and I was happy about it.

I used to be with Telstra, and found that where I was living I got really bad reception and mobile broadband coverage. I have switched to Optus in the last 12 months and I am finding that it is much better for me. I always have reception and internet.

After using telstra and other providers i would only go for telstra now, not because i think they are extremely good but that the others i have tried are definitely sub par in various ways which can make for a very annoying experience

Telstra for coverage speed competitive pricing
and its the only one in australia with foxtel so my phone is a tv too which is something no other carrier provides ditto ditto BLING
Not loyalty jsut who gives the beat products

I like a mobile provider that doesn't charge the earth and provides lots of extras in the deal like $20 a month with $500 worth of extras including sms and 500 MB's of data. At the moment I am with Dodo and their reception is good at any location I am at and they treat me fairly. I have tried Vodafone which I quite liked as well as Telstra who just ripped me off good and proper. So I will just stick with Dodo now.

My provider, Vodafone, is great because they have their $2 sim pack which you can set up in less then 10 minutes. With $20 you can have 40 minutes worth of Vodafone to Vodafone chat and 20 extra texts. Plus 10 minutes worth of Non Vodafone talk.

I have pretty much always been with Optus and there have never been any problems with it. It is reasonably cheap and has good coverage, although I know some people who are with Telstra and their coverage is ridiculous. I have also heard that they are not too friendly to their customers though, however, Optus staff always seem happy when talking to you. I'm very happy with my mobile provider. I have always expected good coverage, pretty cheap plans and reliable customer service and all of my expectations have been met very well by Optus.

My mobile phone company is Telstra. The reason why I stay connected to Telstra is because it can give you some pretty good deals when it comes to recharging. For example when I recharge $30 I get 500mb free and free texts, the only thing that costs is the calls but it is free past 6pm to 6am.

I am with Telstra - the best of a bad lot. I use prepaid having been caught paying out contract. I use Telstra as they have better coverage and less blind spots. The advertising covering xx% of Australia is false and misleading in that it does not acknowledge blind spots

I'm with Telstra & have never changed I've lived in the country for a few yrs now & they have the best coverage for my area. Prices are reasonable, I know there is cheaper but it's a coverage issue for me

now im using optus and expect to have a smooth connection.
i choose it because price is quite reasonable $18: 1.5gb data and $650 credit
it is perfect expect their data service. it is quite slow compare vodafone.
if its data can improve, i definitely loyalty to optus

I am using Optus - have for years - so far have had good coverage for the places that I visit. They keep an eye on how much I am using and inform me if I am getting close to my included useage. As I have recently paid out my latest phone they have given me a lower cost plan. I appreciate the trouble they have taken to let me know and while they would like me to change to a more recent phone have not tried to badger me into it. This instills loyalty as I appreciated this.

What makes me stay with a company is reliable service (i.e. a stable connection), good value for money, and helpful customer service. I have an allegiance to Vodafone as I was a customer of 3 and Orange Mobile in the past. They have instilled loyalty in me through a series of favours, such as occasionally waiving fees, or treating me with respect as a long time customer.

i expect decent coverage, there is nothing more i hate then being with a huge company that doesn't have good coverage, and quality for price is another big one. i am with boost prepaid who i know are owned by telstra but give so much better product i buy a $40 recharge and get unlimited everything and 2gb of data where on normal telstra for $10 less you only get free 6-6 it doesn't make any sense! i find the overall brand of boost mobile is great i barely ever drop out of reception and i get good quality and an excellent price i have been a boost mobile customer for 2yrs and unless it changes i wont! i wish the did home phone and internet but thats a whole other thing :)

I am currently using Vodafone services. I have been using this service for past 14 years. My family also uses the same company's service. What I expect from Vodafone is giving me attractive call offers and messaging schemes. I have been getting these offers continuously from Vodafone. I am also very delighted to know that they have arranged a relationship manager for me to be able to deal with any problem.. I am impressed by their spontaneous service when there are conflicts.

I expect a fast service, a 24 hour technical team I can call for support - who understand what it is that you want, when you want it. I stay with Telstra because they have the fastest network available in my areas, the price is reasonable also. I have no allegiance to my company and no they do not instill loyalty.

Living away from the major cities means that reception is sometimes poor on anything other than the Telstra network. While i'd like to consider switching to a cheaper provider it's just not practical while this is the case. I was once with Optus but would lose service for days at a time.

im with optus, which was my first ever provider, i swapped out to soul mobile while i was living in the city for a while but it was hopeless in comparison to optus deals and coverage. optus while they are still telstras little sister have better coverage in some areas in australia than telstra i have found and i like that they are big enough thatthey can have some legitimate deals which may be better than the owner telco telstra

I just stick to prepaid because so many times whether its friends or families they have been hit with a major bill because they have gone over. With my prepaid if I go over all I need to do is recharge and to me it gives that sense of more control over financial matters. I am with Optus and the only reason why I am still with them is simply because they were the phone company I picked at the time and I have had no dramas. I would presume that the company would show loyalty to not just me but to all there customers. The reason for this if I had a problem I would not hesitate to disconnect and these days word of mouth can travel a lot quicker and further in today's world.

I expect clear reception, and quick internet loading times. This is what I mainly use my smartphone for. Prices aren't too bad for most companies in regards to calls, but not enough data usage is included in the big name contracts. This is why I'm with ALDI Mobile. Although not clear and great reception, their pre-paid options provides enough data to last me a whole month. I used to be with Optus and I managed to get out of my contract as I was such a loyal customer for nearly 10 years and had no rewards for it.

I expect excellent reception from anywhere I may be from my phone company. I am with Optus and ensure I always have plenty of credit. I usually have good reception wherever I travel and whenever I need it at this stage. I think I am loyal
to my service provider and am very happy with the charges I pay. Better deals are always worth 'looking at' and even taking up............but I would firstly endeavour to find out if Optus are willing to match and seemingly 'better' deals.

I was with Vodafone for 14 years as coverage was bad, billing was too high, I never had an upgrade, basically I felt like there was no advantage being a loyal customer. I moved to virgin, so far so good always speak to someone who answers my questions, fixes the issue.

I was with 3 and was moved to Vodafone when they took it over. I have had absolutely no problems with the phone or the provider and will be renewing my contract with them. I travel around Sydney a lot and have had no connectivity problems at all

My mobile service provider is Telstra, they're not too bad, however more explanation could have been given regarding mobile data costs which resulted in me wasting a considerable amount of money. This lack of communication almost convinced me to switch however through a bit of research I found how to purchase their data service packs which resulted in a lot cheaper data.

Until 5 years ago, I was with Vodafone. I was 'loyal' to them, and recommend them over the other major providers. They're service was great and reception on par with Telstra.
However, Vodafone suffered a number of network issues in 2008/2009. In 2009, I moved to a regional city, and often found myself without coverage, or receiving texts and voicemails one or two DAYS after they were sent. Vodafone's promises of extending 3G to the area I lived in always lapsed. Their customer service - like most mobile providers - was an overseas call centre, and they were unqualified uninformed to provide the help I need.
So in 2010 I shifted all my services to Telstra. Not the cheapest or best value, but they had the best coverage. I'm still with Telstra, and happy with the service, coverage and value I get. They still have some annoying traits (their Telstra Shops are almost a separate entity from the over-the-phone service, and the two don't seem to get along very well), but their coverage is second-to-none and their value is on par.

I am currently with Telstra because it provides the best coverage in regional areas. I expect flexible plans and extensive coverage. Although Telstra has the best coverage it is still very poor in lots of areas. I don't beleive them when they claim to cover 90% of the population. As a result I would switch if a provider was to emerge that gave increased coverage

Rob Cohen - I expect good reception and good coverage - so only one choice I'm with Telstra, I expect I will stay with them as they have the products and best of all the best coverage. I say this as have had experience with Optus and was with 3 when they were taken over by Vodaphone - Vodaphone are useless had to threaten them with the ombudsman in the end and went to Telstra - where I will stay!

ibe been with vodafone and im now with telstra and i wish they were combined with vodafones recharge deals and telstra reception and the customer service at both companies suck half of the staff dont even knoe what they are talking about thats why my phone is with telstra and my internet is with vodafone.

I'm with TPG. $9.99 a month for $180 worth of texts/calls and 250mb of data. It's an older plan that isn't available to new people anymore, no way you can beat that deal!

I am on a contract with Telstra and I expect that my mobile phone company can provide reception where I live and if I'm travelling throughout Australia as well as the company being able to answer any questions I have or help with any problems I have. What makes me stay with the company is reception and the product and service. I do have an allegiance to Telstra as I am not only under contract but the service is best out of the companies I have tried.

I am with Virgin. Have been so for about an year now. Previously, I was with 3 for several years. Terrible service, very poor reception, no recognition of loyalty.
Quite happy with Virgin. Reasonable package, useful 1 month roll-over of unused credit facility and good coverage. No complains any more..!

I use Optus after years of being with Telstra. I get a much better deal and have found not much difference in the quality of reception. There might be a couple of places where Telstra is better however I find more areas where I couldn't get Telstra coverage previously but find that Optus is as clear as ever.

Price and reception are key for me especially since I call abroad at least weekly. And my phone provider offers $0.10 per minute calls - a real bargain wherein another would offer US$0.40 per minute. Now if only I could get clear reception at home without me having to go to out to the driveway...

Price and network coverage are linked. If you need proper coverage away from major urban centres then Telstra is your best choice. They have decent deals so are not much more expensive than Singtel Optus. I was with SingTel Optus and Vodafone and couldn't get coverage barely an hour out of Perth - before switching to Telstra a few years back. Best thing I've ever done.

I bought myself a smart phone recently. It is a Sony Xperia P Lt221i and I have taken to it like a duck to water. I LOVE it. I bought it 2nd hand from Cash Converters for $199.00

I am with Optus. With bringing my own phone I pay $20.00 a month. I get $300.00 worth of calls and texts and 200mb of internet. I don't usually go over my limit but if I do I can buy $5.00 worth to get me to the end of the month.

I pay $24.95 for unlimited broadband at home from Skymesh which gives me 100mb/s. So I mainly use the desktop, however I do use the phone when away from home and need it. Or use the free wifi in shopping centres.

I have found that I have reception in undercover car parks, in shopping centres, at home and down on the farm. Telstra didn't have good reception at home or down on the farm when I went with Optus.

When we flooded, anyone with Telstra, such as iinet, did not have broadband on their computers. I still did with skymesh as it is satellite.

I do online surveys on the computer at home. Last month I earned $365.00 so that definitely pays for my $24.95.

This month I joined a mobile company that pays me $20.00 a month to do a survey if I buy a snack away from home. So that pays for my phone. :)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 - I love it. I'm also with Optus. I hardly use my phone for calls. If I call anyone it's usually my nephew and as we are on the same account, they are free. I only spend $9 a month for my plan plus $4.95 for an extra 500mb a month. I use the data more then the voice calls (viber, apps etc). When home I connect to my wifi network (Cable with Optus). Reception can be a bit awlful at work (in a building) but I have never heard of others complain about lack of recepetion. Out and about, no real problems. I've only been with Optus with my mobile.

Amaysim is simple, reliable, and very cost-competitive. 5/5. I have previously been a customer of Optus (arrogant - I worked at Optus when they first opened [before the great betrayal]), Vodafone (did this network EVER work), Telstra (less bang for your buck) and Dodo (I now know why they surrendered to extinction).
Allegiance - no but I do reward my provider with continued custom and recommendations if they provide no-fuss service and keep their word.

I'm with Virgin mobile - made the change from 3 about six mths ago when 3 closed - we shopped around - Telstra, although reliable, were way too expensive, as were optus - We found that vodafone only gave free sms OR calls vodafone to vodafone and virgin gave both as well as a decent data and call cap. I don't use my phone constantly but a few times a day and don't use the internet on it much at all. I found virgin staff fantastic - they offered great smartphones at no extra cost and they set our phones up on the spot. They are very knowledgeable and we even went back when I had a problem with my phone and they fixed it on the spot too. Their call centre staff are great - The only problem I have had is a few drop outs but I can deal with that from time to time when I know I am getting great customer service and a good deal.

I have always been with Telstra. The main reason is that they have the most reliable network and largest coverage. I need to know that I can use my phone when and where I want.

I have postpaid mobile plan with Vodafone for more than 5yrs, it provides great price and good reception with no drop outs, I expect my mobile phone provider has a wide range of mobile plans with competitive price and excellent customer service, Vodafone does good job and provides superfast 4G, I think I will stay with Vodafone.

Optus $2 a day plan on pre paid is perfect ,unlimited calls ,txts and data (500mb)day i have been with Optus for years and just recently upgraded 2 this plan and a smartphone that i bought outright. and they always send youbonus credit and mins if you are on lower plans.telstra's reception is slighly better but if you life near a city its ok with optus and telstra's more expensive by far.also all my dealings with customer service and tech have been resolved easilyand they dont make you feel silly

Over a year ago, I was fed up with Telstra and switched to Amaysim. Best move I ever did. At the moment it uses Optus 3G and I have not had any problems in an area where there are black spots, including for Telstra. I even get reception on North Stradbroke Island, where, at Flinders Beach, anyone with Telstra, has to walk out into the middle of the road to get reception. Great when there is cyclonic weather. Anyway, I'm very happy with Amaysim and pay $39.90 for unlimited calls, texts and 4GB data, heaps more than Telstra. Tricia

My use of the mobile is erratic, I can use it a lot in a month or not at all.
I found cheap Aldi prepaid works for me.
I think Amaysim might be pretty much the same.
The thing I like about Aldi is not only are the call charges cheap, but the recharge will last for up to 12 months, so if I only make a few calls over a month or two, I have a phone for incoming calls etc. for a very low cost.

Some might see having to buy your own phone as a downside.
I admit, I jumped in a pool and drowned my last one. It cost me $120, but I replaced it the same day (the old sim worked fine).

The upside of not buying your phone on a plan is that the phone is not locked to one network and as I am a prepaid customer there is no contract to expire.

The downside is that you have to buy your own phone upfront,but if you only want to make calls you can get some really cheap phones and could probably get started with a phone and credits for less than a months fees on some plans.

I agree with Jeeves. Telstra is the best. Go online or into a store & ask for a deal you cannot refuse. A bundle is the way to go. I signed up for a bundle including a T-Hub. very handy & includes a Wi-Fi tablet. Also, remember that fancy combos of phone/tablet etc. are a compromise. If you only need a phone, then go for a phone with limited add on capability. They perform like a phone should. My phone is a Telstra tradies phone & works 4 floors underground.

I have pre paid with Virgin for my internet and it is $19.00 every time i recharge and some times it is only 2 days apart and i do not have a house phone and my mobile is with Optus but i do not make many calls and always loose my money as if you do not use it up they keep it so now i only have in coming calls thanks

Well the auto top-up did not work as should had with Optus and been on-going escalated issue with no call backs always me calling to inquire about refund for deductions payments not required from my mastercard - not impressed with Optus service and now would not recommend anyone to select for auto-top up with them as it incorrectly works.

I have just recently finished my contract with Optus. My preference is to stay with Optus or who I was before, Telstra. I do not want bad phone reception. I have not experienced this and I don't want to start experiencing this.

Anyway, I was very surprised with the effort iPrimus put in to make me their customer. The gave me plenty of extra credits and literally bent backwards for me. I had an offer for phone, internet and mobile that I could not refuse.

and the icing on the cake is that I have the same coverage because it is Optus, but much cheaper.

Yes Optus does have cheapers package deals and no drop-out well rarely. However as I have commented do not opt in for Auto-top up.

Good service good coverage, quality pricing, good quality phones after service.
I have tried 3 providers with Telstra being the best for coverage and pricing.
I do not recommend Telstra brand phones, I have had 4 each replaced and last time replaced twice, they are rubbish.

I expect a reliable connection, fast internet and not to be surprised by an exorbitant bill at the end of the month - too much to ask for?? I have tried a few and there are good and bad things about all of them, in my view. I'm with Virgin currently and this allows me to use up my credit on international calls, which I really value, as well as making good use this way from the rollover. I would like more data though and have considered other providers, such as Amaysim, but any international call are in addition to your base plan and there is no rollover. Eventually though I think more data is going to get to me and I'll have to change over.

I like Still am with amasym and am happy with the plan and reception. they use the optus network and I have never had a phone call drop .. unlike with Telstra where it was also costing me to re call a dropped out call .. I am very happy with amasym and would fully recommend them.

Hi Dave22 Amaysim is such a bargain Have you thought about buying a replacement battery. look on line at some of the phone battery sights . still cheaper than buying a new phone. thats what we used to do .. or look at a portable battery charger, which is what we both have now .. you can stick your phone on charge with a portable device even when your at work . I bought a new one in October its got 2 usb ports so i can charge my ipad and my phone at the same time . cost me about 59.00 charge it and charge your phone at the same time even.

Hey Pameee, I just discovered Amasym & I'm looking at getting a SIM through them. The $44.90 with 5Gb data is insanely good.
BUT now I am trying to sort out the handset side of the equation.

I have an old iPhone 5 thats battery is so bad, it will barely make it to lunchtime after charging all night. Any recommendations?

I own two mobile phones both prepaid one with Telstra the other Amaysim. Amaysin is the prefered supplies as it is much cheaper than Telstra. I live in Brisbane and never had a problem with receiption.

The Telstra phone was used for work because receiption is horrendous in the bush. There for the majority of towns in the Qld west there is no mob receiption as soon as you move ten, fifteen miles out of town.

As to brand of phones both are Nokia and at least fifteen years and still working. My motto is if it's not broke don't fix it

I expect good customer service, easy to understand plans and a decent phone. I'm with Vodafone but only because they recently took over 3.

Mobile phone providers confuse the hell out of me with their plans, data allowances etc. I only want a phone to make calls and send txt msgs, instead i've got this smart phone that does everything but make coffee.

I took someone with me when I had to change and I really dont have the confidence to change providers. I basically got a deal within my budget. They were very helpful and knowledgeable but I feel all providers are basically the same as there is so much competition for them. Having said that, i feel i'm now just a number and i haven't heard from them since I signed up.

I'm with Virgin Mobile (which I'm pretty sure is using Optus Network). Most of the time the reception is good unless I am down the South Coast of NSW then it is pretty bad. I've always like Virgin as a brand so went with them years ago and haven't changed since. I have had a couple of times when my bills have increased and I have had to query them about it. They have always then put me on a good deal. I have found their customer service to be great. I just wish they would update me about what plan I should be on rather than I have to contact them every couple of years to make sure I am on the best deal. But I have no intention ever going to Telstra, I really don't like them as a company - hopefully I won't ever have to eat humble pie!

terry, in regards to reception down the south coast,( not sure how far down you are referring to) we are with Vodafone and have a property near Termeil(between Batemans bay and Ulladulla) the reception is so good we have ditched our land line and use mobile only. Have an excellent deal, customer service - never needed it, except to upgrade phone last year :)

I have had three smart phones now. The first two where from China and was initially happy with them until things went wrong of them. The first one decided it wouldn't charge any more. Then the second one came with instructions in Chinese and couldn't read this. It worked fine for me but when people rang me there was always a crackling noise and eventually I changed my provider thinking this was going to solve the problem. But alas the problem was with the phone. So I gave the old one to my son and he just adds games etc on it and now I have a Nokia and it seems to work very well and plus it was from Australia. So fingers crossed I will be set!

The major manufacturing plant for Nokia is in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, Southern India. A further development facility in China that is similar to the Chennai plant has reached over $1bn over seven years so there is a fair chance that your phone was manufactured in either of these countries as Nokia has developed these sites to supply the pacific region.

I dont expect much from my mobile phone company because I don,t use it much. At the moment I'm with Optus, due to expire early next year. I may move on. the reception is okay unless I'm visiting my Mum -then its not too great. My biggest issue is the phone that came as part of the plan It has been back for repairs 3 times and is still messing up. My man criteria is costs and the deal is not too bad at present - cheaper than other operators. So far I have tried ACN, Virgin and Telstra. all have been a rip off with prices, especially Telstra, since I dont use it much. I need a reliable handset this rime when I renew. So far no telco has filled me with confidence. Roll on 2014!

I move around a bit and go off camping regularly...i don't know how many times i have takled to people that can't get phone or internet reception when i can.
They want to save a few dollars and have an unreliable connection.
The FACT is Telstra has the best network with the best coverage. They are not that expensive...get on the phone,bundle everything and take a two year contract.
I pay $44.95 for 4G Mobile internet with 4g of data AND my mobile.
I am not a phone junkie and use my free calls between 7-8pm evernight if i need to talk to anyone.
The only other REAL network in Australia is Optus although their ads are a little bit deceptive...they cover a lot of the population but not much area compared to Telstra.
Telstra has changed heaps in the last 2 years or so since that yankee boss fellow left.
YES...i LOVE Telstra!!!

I agree Telstra is the best and what most people don't realise is whichever Provider you have it will mainly be Telstra technicians that have to fix your problems and lots of these other Providers like Optus for instance, do not have a great reputation for Customer service etc., Some Telstra customers may have had problems but considering the vast amount of Customers and coverage that Telstra has, those customers are few and far between.. Like so many things, it's the bad things that get publicised in TV and Media. Like the old saying "You get what you pay for"

I had a prepaid mobile with Telstra but as other people know that Telstra know how to charge so I went looking for other providers that work at Goomeri in QLD so I went into Optus and asked them and they told me they had very good Coverage where I live with there prepaid service so I joined up with them then when I got home I was only getting one bar of service and it was always cutting out of service every minute or two so I tried to ring them to find out what they could do for me and they did want to know and I don't know of any other providers that work where I live so I had to go back to telstra prepaid. does anyone have any suggestions at all.

I have heard this before with Optus, they promise good reception, but cannot provide. Telstra has some good plans out now, even for prepaid. I have postpaid with Telstra, and for $49 per month, I get $450 value of calls and texts.
My computer club, for which I am secretary, has a wireless contract with Dodo, which uses Optus lines, and much of the time I cannot get any reception. I will certainly be voicing my opinion against that when it comes up for renewal!

I have been a customer with Amaysim for more than one year. The reception is good. They really care about their customer. I choose the pay as you go plan, which only cost me less than $10 each month. I will stay with Amaysim.

On a prepaid service Telstra give you 2 different dates of expiry for Data and Credit .
I dont use the Data much which has an early expiry date than the credit expiry.
When the date expires I should at least have remaining credit to make calls - But when my data expires Telstra steals the remaining credit also before it expires.
Telstra refuse to explain why and now refuse to comment period and they are the Only provider in this area .
I am using one of their Telstra phones and the signal drops in and out depending which room of the house your in

I only have a mobile for emergencies and just to send the odd text message and call.. I pay $70 for a year and providing I renew within the last month of that year any unused credit is added on. I have had this for years and although the price has increased a little over the years I find it excellent. As far as mobile phones are concerned I only use a second hand Motorola RAZ which my daughter gave me when she upgraded. I find it great and get a great reception. Believe it or not I sometimes find the reception better than my Husband's much newer blue tick phone when he has to go all over the house to get a reception. Maybe lots of people complaining about the service and reception could consider that it may be the particular phone they are using might not be ideal, it's like so many appliances, some are better than others. Just my personal opinion.

I do believe they are more expensive and try not to look at other sites and ads because the prices annoy me. But I need coverage, I hate not having service, although with my Telstra phone I do not get service where as my partner with blue tick does. Annoys me very much....

I am with Amaysim too. I make very few calls, I hate telephones. I send some texts, and I need it for emergency calls.
Anywhere outside of Perth, we are forgotten. I'm in Mandurah, no digital radio and digital TV is shocking. Phone reception drops off for no reason, mobile internet forget it.

Those with (any) mobile reception at home are indeed fortunate. Regardless of provider, we have no reception whatsoever... having to drive over 3 kms before we can even get a two-bar signal.

Far more problematic, along our south-west WA coast there's no reception at all, making emergency calls (shark attack, drownings, vehicle accidents, etc) extremely problematic. Our state government remains deaf to the issue... .
