To Immunise or not?

Here we go again - the controversial issue of 'should we or should we not' vaccinate our children?
As a mother and grandmother, I'm totally in favour of protecting the health of our children, however, my gut feeling leans towards educating ourselves on the positives and negatives of healthcare, especially immunisation.
Years ago, I had no concerns about having my children vaccinated, that was until my eldest son developed smallpox after his smallpox vac. That's pretty much when the penny dropped - come on Doc, this is cowpox, is it not? No, mother, this is smallpox, said he....rubbing his hands gleefully and calling in his colleagues.
The only thing that prevented this smallpox thingy from becoming a major issue was the fact that my son was sporting a broken collar bone at the time and his overall movements were limited....even though he did end up with a couple of scars. So, I guess, if you come down with smallpox.....keep perfectly still!
Was I warned this could happen? No! Needless to say, I chose not to have my other two children vaccinated against smallpox.....who knows what may have happened!
Today, the internet is being blamed for spreading tales about vaccinations and some of the information is mind-blowing. What's the general opinion on vaccinations?

I believe that vaccinations can be effective as observed through the smallpox vaccine introduced by edward jenner which led to the eradication of smallpox worldwide. I strongly believe that all parents should vaccinate their children as it may have an immense impact on their wellbeing and possibly save lives.

I agree. I think all people (including children here) should be immunised. Yes its not a protection to not get the illness' at all. But it helps it be not near as bad if do ever get these things.

It doesn't hurt to get it, but it def can make a BIG difference if don't.

vaccines are not as safe as people think. Even Gardasil has been proven a SCAM. In theory, vaccines sound good and beneficial but they are full of so many harmful chemicals and toxins. Most are all about putting fear in people for $$$$$

Had Cajun Spice carried out some rather basic research, using reputable medical sites, he/she would have discovered that there is an extremely low risk of of developing problems from receiving a vaccination.

I would rather have the jab of a immunisation needle rather than taking the change of catching some rather nasty disease.
