I;ve asked around why are the fuel prices up and down by up to 12cents at any one time?
Maybe someone can advise me why this happens?

Here we go again! Today, prices jumped another 5 cents per litre. We are being conned.

Fuel prices, like most things, fluctuate due to demand. Thus, during the week, you will see prices rising towards and during the weekend, but I believe it's a Tuesday when the prices are meant to be at their lowest. Having said that - the change itself is often not a huge deal, and doesn't lead to a great saving/rip-off at the pump.

The cycle changes when ever the oil companies choose it got little to do with the oil price as soon as one service station puts up the pric, or down the others quickly follow. Somtimes it is cheap...

Agree with this. It's just greed & the 'because we can' attitude.
I use the NSW gov't (Fair Trading) fuelwatch site/app. It makes a great difference, especially on trips. I can check local prices, the price where I'm going & in between - then work out where to fill. I've had time where there was 20c/litre difference between Parramatta & Goulburn. With enough fuel to cover the trip down, I fill there.

No idea, I just presumed you by fuel at a price & add a slight profit, didn't understand myself why such price rises! I laugh at ppl that wait in line for a 4c discount when the car they are driving is worth more than $80-100k!!
