Dogs are pack animals and consider their owners as part of their pack. Therefore they love to with you and to be indoors with you whether it's winter or not. To banish a dog outside makes them feel alienated from the pack.

I agree with jester123. A dog should be part of the family. A bed inside the house is the best way to tell your dog just that.

Not necessarily, my dog loves being outside, it depends on the personality of the dog.

Hi Jye. I would have a spot inside, like the laundry at least. The benefits are many, he will keep in better condition if he does not have to waste energy keeping warm. Also being closer to you, he will be happier.
As he gets older, arthritis could be a problem with the cold.
Dogs kenneled outside need special protection from drafts and wet weather. It's hard to ensure that they do not run in and out in the wet weather, thereby wetting their bed.The Spca would take a dim view of that. Bedding is hard to manage with blankets, Some shredded paper is warm and easily replaced.
