Do you travel far on public holidays or do you prefer to stay home - and why

Stay home as much as possible.
Double points, too many cops & more than enough idiots on the road already.

For public holidays, we tend to stay at home unfortunately. I'd love to go away on public holidays but my boyfriend prefers to stay :(

If its winter it nice to see different scenery. In the warmer months I'd prefer to have a barbeque and hang around the pool. Beats sitting in the traffic and racing to get somewhere for a few days. With life so busy maybe we need to start enjoying our own backyard a little more....

No. We tend to stay home as it means we can have some quality family time together and/or get projects done around the home. Plus, traffic is always worse on long weekends.

We tend to stay home. There are too many fatigued drivers on the road and more risk of accidents. People work all day then drive long distances at night. We always stopped every couple of hours, and got out and walked around to get some fresh air. If possible swap drivers. In cold weather don't over use your heating as that can cause drowsiness, the cause of many accidents. people are in a hurry and tend to take unnecessary risks. When passing trucks give them plenty of space. They can't slow down or stop as quick as a car. Having travelled in a truck as a passenger for one day, I was horrified how many stupid things drivers do and am surprised there is not a lot more accidents. Overtaking on blind corners, across double lines, and cutting people off. If you leave the regulation space behind another car, sometimes an "idiot" will pass and squeeze in then you have to try to hurriedly gain legal space again - not a 2 second success.

Now that I am retired I avoid going away on public holidays because of the huge amount of traffic. So I take my breaks at other times.

Hey..really depends on the time of year. When it's cooler we tend to just stay home or close to home. If the weather is nice and it actually becomes a long weekend (Mon or Fri Public holiday) we like to go away the beach is generally where we will head!

Doesn't matter how long the public holiday is, if it isn't in walking distance I stay home.

I too love to get away for a short break but often the prospect of hours in heavy traffic really turns me off of the idea

Hi,
I like to travel & do things so staying at home is not usually my first choice.
There is so many things to see & do in the great Australian outdoors and with the extra day you can get out of the rat race to unwind. Often you only need to drive a couple of hours or fly a couple.

Its so relaxing and recharges your batteries to get away for that long weekend. always make holiday destination not more than a two hour drive if it is only for the long weekend.
