For Jones to say.. "julias dad died in shame' is so stupid.
Her dad loved her and was proud of what she is doing.
I think sticking knives into any one in this way shows a complete lack of respect.
It makes me wonder what else he thinks, and why does he think his
views are the best or only ones?

I believe most agree that Jones' comments were in bad taste. The old saying, if you live in the public spotlight, you become public property. Jones is not the first and will not be the last public figure to make a blunder like this. But be rest assured this does not excuse him for saying what he did.

As for his apology, I would have been surprised if Gillard did take his call as his comments would have cut deeply and her initial reaction would have been one of hurt and anger. You said it was not political, but she chose to make a political issue out of it as she and her colleges used those comments to attack and vilify Abbott.

Jones may have lost his BMW and sponsors, but the publicity was second to none. I would be willing to bet people will listen to his show just to hear other peoples comments. If anything I think he has only got stronger, as people like Jones thrive on publicity, whether bad or good.

Recall the last state election in Queensland. Bligh's personal attacks on Newman and his family was a turn off. She was unceremoniously booted out of office. Gillards and Co's attack on Abbott is not dissimilar. So in answer to your question, should she have taken the call from Jones, in hindsight maybe she should have and nipped it in the bud. She may have prevented a drop in the polls and gave Jones no real publicity to feed off.

I agree with you Chris. The points I raised were as follows:-

Tony Abbott DID condemn Jones' comments, just like Malcolm Turnbull, and that includes most everyone, including me. My point...

colOO1.... I am was just reminding Anna that I did not post this for a political discussion, but an opinion on the comment that Jones made, I will not be drawn into political comments except to...

I agree with you Chris. The points I raised were as follows:-

Tony Abbott DID condemn Jones' comments, just like Malcolm Turnbull, and that includes most everyone, including me. My point is that you can't attack someone simply because of association. I see that as on a par as Jones' comments, and it doesn't help. I am not after a political discussion as these scenarios seem to occur far too often, in all walks of life. Now that you raised the point, my question would be why would you attack Tony Abbott when he actually agreed with both you and I that Jones' comments were wrong.

My other point being that in hindsight Julia Gillard should have said nothing and let the community judge Jones. Less publicity for Jones to feed off.

colOO1.... I am was just reminding Anna that I did not post this for a political discussion, but an opinion on the comment that Jones made, I will not be drawn into political comments except to say I did`nt blame Ms Gillard for not accepting his apology, as once the words left his mouth, they were gone,.. you should think before you open your(BIG) mouth, (Jones that is) if someone had said that about my father I don`t know if I could have contained my anger, It was said at a young Liberals convention, I would attack Abbot also, at least Malcom Turnbull, had the guts to get up and say it was wrong!!!!!

Alan Jones' statement was disgusting & disrespectful. Love or loathe the woman, this type of thing should not be said. I agree we have our own opinions, a lot smarter opinions than the Government of the day I would not hesitate in saying!

robertjac, yes you are right either you love or hate the man.................. personally I don`t understand why we need him or his opinion, if a person can not have THEIR own opinion, well whats the point?................. anyway I have found his opinions ( when I have heard them) to be completely bias... and I`m sorry not an opinion I think is worth while, he is just a washed up has been, and should keep his unwanted opinions to himself !!!

I personally think it was in bad taste (wether or not you like Julia Gillard) the man is a complete moron, as far as I`m concerned,is not worth lisitening to, his opinion was completly biased and uncalled for, and uttered by a completely rude man, I don`t blame her one little bit for not taking his call, once it is said it is too late to apoligise, I know I would be Mortilally wounded if some one said that about my relationship with my Dad, that they knew NOTHING ABOUT
