I am often asked that quesrion. It is a little amusing and perhaps you might think so too. We met through a mutual friend and after awhile started going "steady" that is what it was then. He had to live and work away from the city where I lived so we had a long distant romance for nearly 6 months. He would come to see me as often as he could (he was 1200 klms away) but we had lovely conversations over the phone and wrote to each other.real "love letters" I still have them! After a few months our relationship was now serious so one night during a long distant call he popped the question This is how it went. He rang from a small country town which needed an operator to connect the phone call from the Post Office. The phone required coins (quite a few) to pay for the call which were put in a slot after the operator informed you how much the call would cost. During our conversation he said "will you marry me." I said no I will not we are too young and my dad would not approve. He asked me again, my answer was the same NO. This happened a couple more times requiring more coins to pay for more time. Each time the operator cut in and said "are you extending the call" By now he was pleading with me and the talk went back and forth. Again the operated asked if the call was to be extended.but this time as I was about to say goodbye the operated cut in again and said Please say yes the poor boy has spent a fortune"! All 3 of us laughed and of course with coaching like that from a complete stranger how could I do amything else but say YES! We went back to that little town a couple of years ago when we were travelling that way on a holiday. We stopped outside the Post Office and had a laugh when we remembered that conversation. It was a long time ago, you see we did marry and in fact have been for nearly 48 years!!
Tell me how he proposed to you, would love to hear your story.

My boyfriend asked me on a weekend tramping trip in North-West Nelson, NZ. We walked for three hours, he found a lovely mossy stream with a waterfall cascading over the rocks in the Beech forest. He suggested I take a seat on a sunny rock in the midst of the stream; went down on one knee, asked "Would I do him the honour of becoming his wife ? " Such a tough choice ! We had been together four years, so I waited about 10 milliseconds and said "Yes !" To date, we have been married seven years. I will be celebrating my fortieth birthday soon; just after our daughter becomes six years of age.
