Riders withour protection, Motorcycle riders that let their girlfriends ride on the back without protection. High heel shoes or sandles and singlet tops make me sick when the rider usually has on a leather jacket and boots.

Up to the individual. People have to live with the poor choices they make.

It bugs me to Rhil. My husband has been riding for many years and will not even let our daughter get on the back of the bike to ride up the driveway in shorts and thongs. He has always been a stickler for full riding gear. So when a got my licence a few years ago, it was second nature to wear full gear and I wouldn't go anywhere without it. Just as well too, as a couple of weeks ago I got hit by a bus who pulled out of a side street without looking and collected my back end. Not a graze on me, (nice bruised knee though), but could have been much worse. Between the full riding gear and defensive riding, I minimised the damage.

When I was living in Darwin I always rode wearing shoes jeans and a leather jacket and just got used to sweating like a pig but felt conifident in doing so but I would laugh when I would see guys wearing budgie smugglers and thongs imagine if they came off, a mate of mine thought he was real cool when he got a permit to ride a bike without a helmet he would cruise everywhere but one night on the way back from a party with a pillion on the back he went to negotiate a roundabout but forgot about the pillion he lost control and hit a power pole head first there were bo other injuries not even a scratch they put him back together with plates rods and screws he was "fixed" but never the same 13 years later he died from his injuries, be smart be safe as you are a mobile organ donor you must remember that you are a great rider but the brainless idiot in a car can take you out and even if you are in the right you always loose

I totally agree Phil. I haven't been riding for any where near as long as you but am such a cautious rider. You are so right never trust an indicator, the majority of people on roads either don't...

Amy great to hear that your out there giving it a go. I hope you keep on riding your motorcycle. There is something about riding that makes us keep on them. If the car drivers were to ride a motorcycle on the road they would be more aware that we cannot stop as well as a car and that they are driving a weapon and it only takes 1 second of lack of attention that could end a life. I feel that I am a better car driver because I am always looking ahead and taking more care. I am always looking for motorcycles and never do a U turn without checking properly.
We owned a motorcycle shop for nearly 20 years andhave heard lots of stories and lost a few customers because of car drivers. Robyn

We see tempory Australians going around on motorcycles not wearing safety gear here in Brisbane. It is tempting to not wear a jacket or long pants but that may be the time it happens. I have been...

I totally agree Phil. I haven't been riding for any where near as long as you but am such a cautious rider. You are so right never trust an indicator, the majority of people on roads either don't indicate properly due to laziness or don't know how to indicate properly! One thing I find is that as soon as I'm on the road with my bike, cars are constantly trying to race with me or act stupidly around me. They sit right up my ass if I'm doing the speed limit and seem to get frustrated. They assume that because I'm on a bike I'm an idiot and just speed all the time. The stereo type of a bike rider infuriates me. Especially when people say that there are more bike accidents because people do stupid things on bikes! It's not that at all the majority of the time I would say the accidents are caused from reckless drivers not the riders!!

I have been riding on the roads for over 39 years and have had some very close calls, but I always wear the right gear. just incase something stupid happens. Defensive driving/riding has been working for me. (ride as if someone is going to kill you) and never trust an indicator.

One rule is the woman buys her own gear, any bike rider or pillion needs full gear at all times

Hmmm. Don't go to Asia. You will be more sick.

It is common there to have a family of 5 or more on a 125 (postie bike, but a little bigger). Safety gear? What's that? One of them *might* have an icecream tub for a helmet.

Well sorry I do realize that Asia and India etc have no safety gear. Different discussion. I was talking about the 'Sports bike rider full leathers big ego has to go fast and the unsuspecting just met girl friend being picked up to go out and she is sitting on a big fast motorcycle and he is weaving throught city traffic at high speed. Have you ever stubbed your toe on the bottom af a pebble swimming pool and the toe really hurts. well just imagine the guy loosing control of the bike and she comes off and looses a lot of skin. I have seen that and I just said that it makes me sick.
