bonus vouchers for pensioners & battlers

With the rise in water, power, groceries, incidentals I would like the Government to give a $100 voucher monthly to help pensioners & battlers to be able to live comfortably! If they can have this huge raise looming, it would not be too much to ask! $100 a month may only be token, I would like to know what would be a fair figure?

The Naval ships should send boats back as they come across them! FULL STOP!
TIME TO LOOK AFTER OUR OWN FIRST, THEN LOOK AFTER OTHERS!
Sadly, I hear from different areas I am in contact with, that people are hurting! Get rid of the GOLD area of the former PM's, their staff & allowances, etc. They did their time now they are in retirement, what the hell do they need staff, trips for? Pay their own! Will save a lot of money, check out our senior people who have paid taxes for many years & give bonuses, they deserve it! BUT it should be a bonus that does not hit housing, heating, water, etc. let them top up their larder/freezer! Medication costs a heap, it may help there, $100 a month is token, hell, that is minimal pocket money for the powers that be.

Hi Anna,
As a person on a disability pension raising a child on my own, I would love to see what you have suggested implemented. My daughter and I live on about $180.00 a fortnight once every thing is paid. The thing is if they do give extra money to the pensioners they have to take that money from somewhere and where do they get it so that it doesn't impact negatively elsewhere. I know that during the winter this year there will be a lot of pensioners that won't be turning on heating (us being one of them), but I don't think handing out vouchers is going to be the answer. Wonderful that you think of the less priveleged though.

definately agree with you Anna, i don't know how old-age pensioners live off the measly amount of money the Government gives them. considering the majority of them have been tax payers their whole life they deserve more

I am one of these people. Yes my pension increase was swallowed up entirely by a private rental increase.
$100 grocery voucher would just about feed me for a month. It would be heaven!

I totally agree - I am on a disability pension with progressive Multiple Sclerosis, and battle daily as it is. I really have to wonder about the intelligence of the Government. I don't know where they think pensioners are going to find the extra money for all the increases in expenses when our income does not increase. I am sure most people on a pension would be most grateful and very budget savy if we where given the help of a monthly $100 grocery voucher. I know I would!

It would appear to me that with the looming Carbon tax implementation and the so called houselhold assitance for low income peole, that the money given as a raise in pensions allowances etc., will not be any help to us at all. We got a $30 a week increase a couple of years ago I think it was, and as I'm in public housing, my rent went up by $26 per week, ending the increase we were given. The same thing will happen with the further increases we are given, so we are really no better off in the long run, despite rising costs in power, water, food etc., etc. Surely there should be some sort of reform for any allowances given to pensioners, low income people and the like, so that azny increase is NOT taken by the public housing people?? It is just a case of give with one had and take back almost the lot with the other to me !! Not a very fair system at all in my opinion.

I agree with you there. Every time we get a little something extra in our pensions, we lose it through increases in food, petrol, rent, or medical expenses. We got the carbon tax bonus of $190 dollars each, but the families got more, and then they got bonuses for all their kids who go to school too. They also get a tax benefit that we who don't have any other income than the pension don't get either. How about the govt giving us a raise and not making it a tax benefit for those of us who don't work anymore! I would love to get a $100 voucher for food or petrol! Money is getting tighter and we have to cut our budget on food and the car. I am disabled and have to pay for my own hydrotherapy at the indoor pool, the petrol to get there, and for my carer to come in with me. There is no help for us!!!!!

Totally agree, I thought a voucher as it not money as in cash, so would not be taxed or housing take their fist full. Surely there is some way to help so does not make one suffer through greedy...

Sure, the battlers and pensioners deserve every little bit of help from the government, afterall, especially the pensioners, most of them have worked all their lives and it is time Australia take care of these people instead of helping those who are able but too lazy to help themselves. A $100 voucher monthly may not go very far for some but it will help these people.

Surely there is some way to help so does not make one suffer through greedy hands. Other idea is we can sack some of the parliamentarians & those ex PM's for heavens sake overpaid lumps of lard, they are lavishing in comfort, certainly should be something done there.

Hi Anna

With the new change of water, power, groceries, incidentals I really think the Government better give out $100 voucher monthly to help all the pensioners and battlers out there who I think need it the most. The government need to make a big changes haven't seen much of it lately.

I believe that you are right if the pollies lost some of there retirement perks and gave the money saved back to the pensioners or as been suggested vouchers would be nice to see instead of hearing polllie getting office and phone free plus air tickets i did 20 years in the Defence Force and i did not get any of those perks when i retired from the defence force.

Hi! yes it worries me big time, these people have given their all in life & to think of not getting a little help to be comfortable in senior years is a worry. Families have moved away & not as close as years gone by, a long time ago most families lived in or near the same town, so would know the situation they are in & each helped the other. Times change & the price of incidentals has gone up big time, I hate to think of anybody not cooking as power bill too exy, keeping warm due to expense, water bill, fancy having to pay for water in Australia, JOKE! Groceries are not cheap, sadly. A voucher I feel may be a life saver, my thoughts! There are people who are not bludgers but have fallen on hard times, the genuine battlers I feel need help!

Sure the Govt could raise the Pension again, it just an increase this past fortnight, but of course they would have to implement new taxes to fund this. Do you want to give money to a carbon tax with one hand, and receive a utility discount with the other? Pointless. Besides the utility companies would just increase their prices to get their hands on this Govt money, same as State Housing authorities increased rents when the Federal pension rent assistance was increased. Its a Catch-22 situation.

Hi, you forget that you are talking about GOVERNMENT agencies of different ills. The only thing they have in common is that they both are money and power hungry. I agree on the non effectiveness of the carbon tax, but for any State Housing Authority to increase rents as they do is not what they are there for. A while ago a CEO of a Housing Authority made the ridiculous statement that it costs the department $450.-- per week to administer one house and that is why they have to keep increasing the rent. How bloody ridicules is that????

If those useless argumentative parliamentarians can get a whopping pay increase for nil work, why not give a voucher out of their pay, being facetious there, but a voucher may be say grocery voucher, water voucher, power voucher, whatever but a voucher not cash as such! As I said I hate genuine battlers battling for the basic things we all take for granted.

Hi anna, Certainly they deserve it ,more than the pollies and their pay rise or the boat people, they have paid their taxes and in a lot of cases put their lives on the line for our country!
