We are completely renovating an old farmhouse and have decided to stay neutral throughout as we have a lot of colour with accessories. HOWEVER on choosing a shade of white we were totally blown away on the amount of shades of white there are out there, thousands of them - HELP!! Does anyone have any ideas what shades work best with Old homes? In particular one that doesn't receive a lot of natural light due to the verandah, as well as working with the dark wooden fire places and doors – any suggestions would be fabulous and greatly received 

Yes! I agree with Bellxchat. I recently had the whole of the interior of the house painted with white tinged with blue, and the window ledges, architrave, built-in cupboards, doors etc painted with a purer white. It makes the rooms brighter with light and also gives the appearance of more space. Fantastic! Like a new house! Corbanattar

Yes, it's amazing how many shades - and names! - of white paint there is. I guess by now you've made your decision, and chosen a colour you're happy with. When I last painted my own home (now someone else has the pleasure) I chose a white that had a slight blue tinge to it. As the sun shone through the windows, the walls would change shades as the ocean does in the very early morning or late afternoon as the sun rises or sets. Nothing boring about white when you get it right!
