Malaysia is not a signatory to UN for refugee purposes. Its Australia's duty to resettle refugees who arrive on Australian shores. Refugees escape persecution to save their lives. They leave everything that they have behind. They rely upon countries like Australia to resettle them and give them hopes to live. They bring along their children with them, whom they cannot leave on their own. Refugees have war going on in their country, they could get killed any time. They have one chance to survive and they cannot waste it by staying in their own country and another country that would make them wait for years with no hope. Refugees have no id to arrange for their travel that's why they enter another country illegally. Why can these refugees arrive illegally in other countries but not Australia??

I believe in the malaysia solution because these are genuine refugeeswho have fled a terrible regime like Burma.
Let the new boat arrivals go on a hunger stike.
We did not invite them here in the first place
I heard the refugees get fed superior meals to the guards and workers on the island.Pam

Like you I believe in the plight of GENUINE refugees, but..Malaysia??? COME ON?? Malaysia doesn't exactly have the greatest Human Rights policies, does it??
Malaysia has committed many crimes...

Hi Skydancer, I agree with most of ypur comments, but ( largely built by immigrants ) these were INVITED to our shores unlike the ILLEGAL boat people!
No justifiable reason, yes our weak welfare system, they take what we have paid our taxes for and they have contributed nothing towards this and will probably not contribute to our taxes for about 5 years.

Malaysia has committed many crimes against humanity, the women are treated as little better than dogs/slaves!!
I feel Australia has a moral right to help those who come to this country seeking our assistance, BUT..I also believe everything must be done to help them assimilate to OUR ways. After all wasn't our country largely built by immigrants to our shores; whether by the convicts (initially) or the Italians, Greeks, English and all those who followed after!!
I DO NOT believe any one in their right mind deliberately leaves every thing behind, pays a kings ransom and puts their/families life at risk for no justifiable reason. But I don't believe it is up to us to change our beliefs/customs to "their" ways!
My wish though would be they leave their prejudices/hatreds behind them; if they truly want a new life, then let them start afresh without their bigotry!
Any one found though to be perpetrating crimes (major) should have their new-found revoked and be sent packing!! That's my thinks about this!!

Hi!, just thought i`d put my thoughts on this comment out there, I`d say, If you will starve your children,????? and how come (they are saying) there are so many unacompnied children? the mind boggles, well I am sorry, but to travel that far with children, then PAY to put them on a boat (after going througth so many countriesd (friendly), then I`m sorry but youy don`t deserve children, and further more, how selfish you should get your children settled as soon as possible, not drag them around more.
