What's the one thing in your house you wish you could change?

We've just gone through a year of renovations to drag our house into the 21rst century! At the end of it all I'm sure there will be something else that needs attention! If you could do anything to improve your home what would it be?

I would change my kitchen as it is lucky to fit two people in it and well with four kids growing fast you get my drift no bench space either and well at the moment no money to extend for the room, also probably I could just turn our house in 180 degree

Slap on a new coat of paint and update the tap fittings and bathroom fittings to the latest style!
This would also apply to the kitchen, of course and can be done quite cheaply by purchasing on EBay.

I would increase the sizes of all the bedrooms! Seriously, the bedrooms are so small, not spacious at all! =(

Ive just moved into a new place a few weeks ago, and the gardens are so over grown, lawns hardly mowed and weeds all around the fence line (its a rural property) so each weekend am out there with a spade and axe slowly pulling out weeds and thistle - would love to have a bulldozer right about now

I would make it so there's no ants anywhere in the house (especially the kitchen), without hurting them. This would make it more encouraging to do the dishes more often and more enthusiastically and would also encourage me to install my recently purchased Jupiter Science JP109 Orion water ionizer near the kitchen sink, and begin enjoying the taste and miraculous health benefits of alkaline ionized water, as well as the various wonderful uses of acidic ionized water. Cheers!

I'm in a rental house...and thing that really bugs me (there are other things) is the chimneys. Neither are in use and both have cardboard taped to them, but when it is windy - they just sound terrible. I have asked my landlord many times to at least cap them, no luck yet.

I did however get him to fix (after I made a couple of suggestions) the gap into the basement which was letting in rodents. He came up with this idea (mine) which apparently he had thought of...it took a few years to happen, but it did finally!!!

if i had the money and the patience i would like to build a second story on my house, the 2 main large bedrooms downstairs have walls that join onto the two smaller rooms, i would love to cut through walls and fill in their doorways and turn these into walk in robes and ensuite. then upstairs would have 2 small bedrooms a bathroom and a lounge area

the size! having bought a transportable home you can walk from one side to the other in about 10 steps, as soon as I get the money I want to build a patio verandah, play space some storage room would help too.

I wouldn't wish ducted heating or AIRCONDITIONING to anyone! Why? It not only dries your eyeballs out, however your skin and the air is so thick it could be cut with a knife! I absolutely hate it with a vengeance!
I think it is far better to purchase Hydroponic heating. It may be slightly more expensive initially however it will more than pay for itself very quickly as it is far less to run! The heat from this system is bliss and there is no noise or awful hot air blowing in your face!
As far as cooling, I would recommend the investors! You can always purchase one at a time as finance allows, starting with the most important room!
I have had a water cooled system, with which you have to leave the windows open - (only one fist height), most people don't realise this and wonder why it is not so good! I loved it, until we had a very humid Summer, when it was awful, so I guess it depends where you live! I loved being able to let some fresh air in as well as being cool! These systems are sooo cheap to run, once installed!

We own an older home that is in need of redecorating. I would love to change, totally, the kitchen. It resembles a galley on a boat, thin and not that long at all. I was used to a big kitchen with two pantries, one for food and the other for crockery, and plenty of other cupboards. Now I have one smaller pantry and three cupboards, one of which is a double. Oh to dream!

I live in a unit and although we have someone to clear the garden and yard, no one is doing the pruning - one of the trees branches is growing towards my front door. I'm looking into hiring equipment to prune the garden, as it's annoying me.

Always the bathroom- and we built the house!. You would think they could set up a virtual room these days that you could test drive for a few days or hologram me in to see if I like it or if it works for you! Its those damn house magazines I keep looking at! and the never ending number of renovating shows on TV, which my husband hates

If you want anew dishwasher get an ASKO - I have just had my kitchen done and the washing machine (made in Sweden) is the best I have ever owned - and very quiet!

Definitely the bathroom! Mine is out of the dark ages! Would love all the mod cons, and a ventilation system to get rid of all the steam induced mould!

A simple exhaust fan connected to the light switch is very cheap and a simple solution as each time anyone goes into the bathroom it will turn on!
A new coat of Paint, will never fail, also go on EBay as you will be surprised how cheap some of the new fittings are! I bought a fantastic tap mixer for $AU 20.00.
Also if you have old glass shower doors, rip them out and replace with a nice shower curtain!! ( they are the preference in Europe and can be taken down for a quick wash and hung up again whilst still wet!
Another cheap idea is simply purchase a new toilet seat! Very cheap solution, good luck and don't forget a few nice accessories from the local op-shop!

Renovating a house is like eating an elephant. Takes ages, some things stick in your throat, but if you do it one small bite at a time it can be done!

Yes, that's what I keep being encouraged with. Yes, I'll keep doing one bit at a time. Thanks Corinne.

When I first moved into my place the bathroom was out of the dark ages, I was able to renovate the bathroom, but ran out of money to put in a new ceiling, go figure. It'll have to wait, I guess.
