The Government wants to empty lakes Caundilla and Menindee in New South Wales and direct water to be stored into an acquifer for use by the people of Broken Hill and other smaller towns dependant upon the river and its lakes. This will lead to the destruction of the native habitat that exists along the Darling River. We need the lakes as when they are full this water can be released to feed the river downstream and also flush the Murray and provide essential water for the Riverland. It also to alleviates South Australia's need for water in times of drought. The aquifer contains all types of minerals which will destroy the quality of the water and make it unuseable. Any feedback would be most welcome!

you have had a lot more rain than usual this year, has it made any real difference to the river levels or water supply. jackney
