Considering they entitled to use lethal force, and are equipped to do so, should police officers be subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing. After all you can't work in mining or even local government without being tested and with the amount of accidents and shootings the police are involved in should not this be the first order of the day?

Yes, there is a very good reason that the defence force does it. It is so that the operations it conducts are legal and moral.. Makes people accountable for their actions
