I'll often go for the generic brand option because I have a small budget. There are some items where you can taste the difference, like chocolate and cornflakes, for some there is a huge difference in quality, e.g. have fattier bacon, but things like milk, cheese, eggs there is very little or no descernable difference (for me at least). If I had a larger budget I would lean towards Australian made and owned as opposed to brand name for the sake of brand name
