Hello we are going to new York for a few days in September does anyone have any advice on the best things to see and also if you have a great place to stay that does not cost the earth and is central to the main attractions. This is our first trip over seas ! :)

G'day Des. I agree with the comments so far. I also love NYC & found all the New Yorkers we met to be welcoming & fascinated with Australia. The first thing we always do when visiting a major city is to take a city tour. Half day or full day. It is worth every cent, as it gives you an insight of the whole area & helps you decide which places interest you to revisit on your own without wasting a lot of time going to places which turn out to be of little interest. My advice regarding accommodation is to not be too far from 5th. Avenue & no further west than, say, 50th. street. A must do is visit Greenwich Village at night. The streets are lined with cafes, bars & music venues of reasonable cost.
I just realised you may have meant Sept. 2012, so you have already been there.
